Hey guys...
wavey.gif

I''ve been lurking around for along time and finally decided to take the plunge and join in on the conversation. And speaking of taking the plunge, my boyfriend and I finally decided to start the search for an engagement ring. We''ve found one and I just wanted to run the numbers past you.. Lemme know what you think!!

Weight: .55 ct
Measurements: 5.31 5.33 3.20
Depth: 60.3
Crown angle: 34.5
Crown Height: 14.9
Pavil Angle: 41.1
Pavil Depth: 43
Cutlet: .6
Table Size: 57.6

I ran these numbers through the various tools available and am getting fairly good marks. All excellents or very goods.

Any other opinions before continuing this crazy engagment process?!?!

Thanks!
Melinda

I ran the numbers through the HCA and got this result:
2.5 - Very Good - Worth buying if the price is right

Is there more information?
What is the colour and clarity?
Are there any Iscope or BScope pictures?

Anyone else chime in?

Opps!!

Sorry.... I forgot

Color: H
Clarity: VS1
Symmetry: Ex
Polish: Ex
Fluorescence:None

Is anybody out there?!?!?

I still dont know if this stone is worth considering.

I'll keep doing my research!!

Is the .6 cutlet veal or chicken? If it's just a chicken cutlet, I'd pass, but if it's veal.... sounds really yummy!

My only thought -- you could save a bit of money by lowering clarity from VS1 to VS2-SI1.

Also, it's hard to see if you're getting a good deal here since we don't know the price asked.

asking price is approximatly 1,650. Its probably a bit pricey for the size. Good thing the boyfriend is paying (haha)

The only reason I decided on such high clarity was becasue of a previous bad experience with one of a lower quality. It was an SI1 (or so the guy said), but when I got it...it was a mess

Luckily, I was able to return it.

I don't really need much of a bigger stone. I'm small (ring size 4.5) and under 5 foot. Also, I never wear much jewlery. A big stone would not fit my personality (if that makes sense). In fact, when i tried on a .75 stone on in the store the dealer said it looked dumb on me! Too bad he lost my business.

Which lab graded the last diamond you bought? If it wasn't GIA ro AGS, they may have been a little lenient and misgraded the stone. In a 0.55 carat diamond like you're looking at, an SI1 should be eye-clean in a lot of cases, and a VS2 almost always.

As far as the stone you listed, I agree that you could go down at least to a VS2, if not a SI1, and not see any difference, except in price. You already said you don't want to go bigger, so you could either pocket the extra money, put it towards a nice setting, or possibly go up in color to a G.

The only other comment is on the pavilion angle. A stone with a 41.1 degree pavilion angle combined with a 34.5 degree crown angle could be a beautiful stone, but there is a greater chance that the stone will suffer from increased light leakage through the table which will cause a darker ring in the center of the stone. Just somethin to think about, and if you're able to look at the stone and don't see that darker ring, than the cutter did a nice job. As a general rule, it's a safe bet to stay below 41 degrees for the pavilion angle. You can go higher, but it requires the crown angle to compensate by being smaller. My fiancee's ER is a 41 degree pavilion with a 34.1 degree crown, and it's gorgeous, so while you can have nice stones with larger pavilion angles, you just need to be a little more careful if you're looking for top light performance. best of luck in your upcoming engagement.
