Has anyone used LOGR or any other ebay seller for the setting for an engagement ring? I wonder whether or not the settings are really sturdy enough for an engagement ring.
I don't think their pave would stand up to everyday wear. But if it's just a metal with sides stones setting, maybe. Only if it's really short term, temporary though. Have you looked at Adwar? I am buying a lovely colored stone and didn't want to go with LOGR or another ebay dealer for the setting so I just went on Adwar and found a lovely setting then emailed the link to Lesley at BGD. She gave me a very reasonable qoute (granted higher than LOGR, but still for the quality and the workmanship, a bargain) for the setting and I'm really excited.
I think it depends on the size of your budget, the kind of setting you want, and how you (or your GF) wear rings.
The non-pave settings I think are sturdy enough that if I had a limited budget I''d do it in a heartbeat.
The pave settings can be a little hit or miss. Some people''s pave seems to be very well-done and stand up to wear very well, a few others have had some issues with stones coming out (which can happen with any pave, but seems t happen a little more frequently with LOGR pave for certain people). Also, their gold weight can sometimes be a little light.
If you work a lot with your hands and wear your rings all the time, I wouldn''t recommend pave anyway.
Having said all that, I have an LOGR wedding band and I love it! My abnd is alternating sections of pave and plain metal (like the Michael B petite crown lace). I wear it often, but take all my rings off for sleeping, dishes, showers, and cleaning. (i just don''t like how they feel then)
I liked my LOGR so much that my Best friend had LOGR make her engagement ring too and she''s really happy with it. It''s a unique plain metal design with a diamond, a sapphire, and some green stone (not an emerald, maybe a tourmaline or a tsav--I''m not sure, I''ve only seen i-phone pics of it
If your budget is a little higher and you see a style you like on adwar, stuller, or the like that is also an option.
What setting are you looking at?
if it''s a pave halo, I would get the LOGR, tell them its an engagement ring, and upgrade the diamonds. I am 99% sure that you''ll be fine.
I think it's really dependent upon which setting you're looking into. I would only suggest an LOGR for daily wear with 2 caveats. The first; that you have a local jeweler that you trust implicitly who won't charge too much (or anything) to replace melee diamonds and is capable of polishing the basket, building up prongs, and generally talented in making a stock cast setting look like a custom piece with special prongs, etc. The second; that you upgrade the diamonds and let LOGR know that this particular setting is for an engagement ring.
That being said, I now have over 20 LOGR rings including a few diamond wedding bands (all pics in my gallery images) and I've only lost 4 melee total since I bought my first setting in 2008. I wear my bezel set diamond wedding band every single day, remove it when I get home, and it's only lost a diamond when I put it in an Ultrasonic. My Legacy settings have been among the most resilient, and now that I'm up to 5 of them, I've decided I probably would have one as an engagement ring if budget was that big of a concern.
The other options are to look at Stuller, Adwar, and some others to have a bit of the custom treatment done to a stock piece.
Oxford Diamond used to offer some settings that were nice looking and had decent side diamonds or pave'. I was almost a regular customer. It looks like they might be trying to offer some nicer pieces again.
I bought one from mydiamondzone that I think is e-ring worthy but may not be a typical e-ring style. (That's why I picked it.)
Shenoa used to offer some decent settings. You have to search "settings" not mount or semi mount.
Once in a while, if you comb eBay hard enough, you'll find nice designer settings that have been used or are store samples of now-discontinued models, or actual vintage settings.
I''m actually interested in a halo type setting for an engagement ring. Something similar to the below. I know that people on here have raved about LOGR but I wasn''t sure if it was sturdy enough for an engagement ring.
I completely intend on wearing the ring everyday with the exception of showering. I don''t think I would want to have to have melee diamonds replaced on a regular basis by a local jeweler so that''s definitely a consideration if LOGR is who I go with.
I''ll have to look into some of the others that people have recommended, as well.
I don''t have much to add besides thanks for starting this thread, and thanks to everyone who''s added their input. I have some friends who are trying to stretch the max out of very limited budgets, and a couple of them had been wondering whether LOGR could work for engagement rings. I''m happy to have more info to give them.
YSQ-You should note that stones can fall out of any pave setting, esp. if it''s worn pretty much 24-7. So, it''s good to have a local jeweler who can handle that if necessary...
That style of ring is my favourite, but I think you get what you pay for and sometimes it is better to save up your pennies and get it done by a jeweler who really knows what they are doing. This may be a case like that, since that type of setting really would not look good if the quality was sub par.
that ring is gorgeous. Honestly, I think you''d be better off getting the ring set in an inexpensive solitaire setting and upgrading to the setting later when you can afford for a really talented artistic jeweler to do it. It''s going to look clunky if it''s done wrong IMO...
