Hi all, first time post.

I saw the Locke''s Signature Setting on this site and think it''s beautiful. I went online though and Locke''s is apparently out of business. Their website points you to ''Dynamic Diamonds'' and their phone number just goes to a recording saying that ''unintelligible'' jewellery is opening in September 2007.

Can the Locke''s Siggy still be had? I have a question to pop in 3 weeks time!

thanks!

a) Don''t think so.
b) You wouldn''t have been able to get one so quickly anyway -- as they were all made by hand & took 6-8 weeks IIRC.

Do you have your stone already?? Are you in NYC?? What''s your budget? What metal are you looking for?

I''m sure someone will be able to help you find something equally gorgeous! BUT GET A MOVE ON!!! You''re already too late for 90% of designer companies!!

I''m afraid not. I was in their store before they closed and the manager said they were no longer producing the signature setting. They did have one left, albeit with a stone, and were willing to sell only the whote thing.

No, can''t get a lockes, but the MWM new one looks VERY VERY close to me... but 3 weeks? you''d have to call him!

First one is Flame by MWM and second is lockes signature.... I like the flame better anyway :)

Thank you for the MWM link and photos. The settings are really superior to a lot I''ve seen. I actually like the sunburst and sunburst petite, knowing my girlfriend...who will want something simple, elegant and highly detail oriented.

I wasn''t actually looking at custom desinging anything, thus the timing. I live in London and will be proposing in Cape Cod in ealry August. I can''t buy anything here with the current exchange rate and had been thinking of taking advantage of it and buying a Tiffany in the states (.73 E/VS1 is £6,050 here thats $12,000) at what amounts to a massive discount for me. My budget is around $6,000 tops. I thought Locke''s would be a good alternative, classy setting.

MWM is closed today but I''ll call back first thing in the morning his time. Thanks for the line on him. And his shop''s in Mass, sign from god.

:)

p.s. on another note - has anyone seen a Sholdt setting RC281 in person? Online pics are so deceiving due to the simplicity of these settings.

favored ring stats:

metal - platinum
type - solitaire
diamond size - .6 to .75 (don''t have one yet - had been planning on buying at Tiffs, so wouldn''t have bought loose)

Generally I''m looking for classic, understated, clean lines, high quality. The diamond will need to be an E or F VS2 or higher. I think she''d only want to compromise on flourescence (I don''t actually know why it matters if a diamond glows under UV).

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I saw it and took note because the V part reminded me of the setting I''m having made but other than that it was rather plain and I don''t remember it much - plus I saw this ring and fell in love.... this setting I just linked is gorgeous - you can see the whole diamond from the side view. And the e-ring and the band are different yet complimentary and they sit totally flush.

That''s a nice setting. Yes, the Sholdts seem to be amazing. I say seem to be because their website''s photos are such teases. With just one picture (good though) it''s impossible to judge all of the complex curvature, especially when it''s as subtle as it is in Sholdt designs. I really would like to consider a Sholdt, but can''t view them in person in London. And you can''t rely on people''s opinions of Sholdt''s I think, they''re just too unique and personal...

I was able to see them in person here and thought they were very well done. You can''t view a MWM there either.... have you considered just getting a very basic $150 setting and then doing something else later wth her inpu?

Well I am considering it now. The MWM settings are turning my eye from Sholdt anyway. I love the Sunburst and Petite Sunburst and will call him tonight to determine which would be best for a .75. I think I''m lucky I haven''t bought a stone as maybe he has a setting begun or even ready for x carats, in which case I''ll just buy to his recommended spec.

Speaking of which what''s the process for getting an online diamond to MWM or any custom maker?
my guess below:
1. buy diamond online
2. have them ship to my billing address (will they ship anywhere else?). I do have a billing address in the States (Mom and Dad)
3. have old mom and dad ship to MWM insured.

that sounds like a total mess.

I''ve seen here on PS that people have the stones sent to an appraiser and then to MWM, is that the way to go?

Thanks so much for the input.

talk to mark about shipping - he has specific policies.
