Light Pad Sapphire - Setting? Help!

Kar - I absolutely thought that I would have done a rose gold halo around my sapphire until I put the two together. Then I was absolutely convinced it had to be a white gold halo! The shank will be in rose gold with diamond pave, showing as little metal as possible (just a hint of rose!

). Hopefully, that is a good mix and doesn''t look too overwhelming with pink!

You are right though - If it was all rose gold, I don''t think I would see the outcome I was hoping for!

As for Ko - I''m still searching for you! Please send the additional pictures of the planetary gems sapphire if you decide to do so!!

I emailed the guy at planetary gems and he said he couldn''t send more pictures! He''s too busy, and he said if he took the time to take more pictures that the sapphires would cost more. It gave me a bad feeling... I know I could buy something and return it, but I really don''t want to go to the trouble unless I feel sure about it.
7 days is kind of a small window to have the stone appraised and the nearest independent appraiser is a couple of hours drive away.

So.... I''m kind of back to the drawing board with the jeweler. He can''t find anything else in my color range that''s not an oval, so I''m trying to decide which points I want to compromise on. I don''t care much for ovals set as solitaires... but maybe I could bend if I found the right color.

My original idea for the ring was sort of a monochromatic look-- a pale pinkish champagne stone in rose gold, like gisellem''s ring, or maybe even a pale yellow stone in yellow gold.

I attached a picture of a sapphire the jeweler is getting for me to look at. He says it''s classified as an orange, but it looks really pink to me in the picture. If I don''t like this one I think I''m going to have him look for pale brown or champagne sapphires instead of the pinkish orange. Kind of a flip flop but I''m trying to keep in mind the original overall look I''m going for.

That''s a smart move, I always suggest keeping the original idea in mind.

I''ve talked to the owner of Planetary Gems and I thought he was a really nice guy. He''s not a native English speaker, and sometimes I think it shows, even in the manner that he describes his gems. I''d encourage you to give him a call and talk to him on the phone to see if he can give you a clearer description of the stone, and to explain to him what you''re looking for and whether he might have something to fit the bill. That being said, you should always buy from a vendor that you are comfortable with.

Interesting thread. I''m looking forward to seeing both posters rings once the stones are set. It seems that Rose Gold is making a comeback. I think it''s wise to have the RG further away from the pad and the WG up next to it. Have fun!
