I found a bezel set diamond necklace (yellow gold) with a light brown diamond and I'm trying to get an idea of whether or not it's a fair price. The diamond has strong blue fluorescence, which I know very little about. Thoughts or comments about this particular stone? Thanks!
About $900. Set in yellow gold on a yellow gold chain.
My question was really more about whether or not the stone was decent? I know very little about fluorescence, so I wasn't sure how to judge it.
No, I don't think it's decent. It is very poorly cut ("Fair" is the lowest GIA cut grade) and it's included as indicated by its I1 clarity grading. Have you seen it in person? The poor cut will lead to poor light performance.
Yes, my thoughts too, but by "decent" I meant is it decent enough in that particular setting? Light performance becomes less critical in a bezel set necklace. Or should I keep shopping? I also found a peachy/pinkish light brown stone (oval shape, just over a half carat) that I was interested in. The cut and color seem better and I could have it set into the same sort of setting (bezel set necklace, but probably rose gold to compliment the peachy/pinkish color).
I think only you can answer that question by seeing if you like the pendant in person. Based on the cut/clarity specs it doesn't sound like it's going to look that great. You will likely be able to see the inclusions with your naked eye. Would that bother you?
^Yes, I appreciate the input! I'm going to go with my gut and pass on the necklace. I think I'd be better off finding a loose stone and designing my necklace.
