An ice-cold (as in microscopic flecks of ice floating in it), shaken, dirty Grey Goose martini in a chilled thin-lipped martini glass with 4 bleu-cheese stuffed olives marinating in it.

Nirvana, people, Nirvana!

ETA: This is only *slightly* improved upon by sipping poolside at the Bellagio under an umbrella at about 4:00 PM pre-massage.

Michelle, I am so bad that my three year old calls all my errands going to the lipstick store! I go to Sephora or Saks or Neimans and all the salesgirls know him...pathetic. My two older sons REFUSE to go with me, they pitch a fit now. I cannot open certain cupboards without being wounded, and my counter space gets smaller and smaller. I store things in shoe boxes (plastic) with p touch lables. All of this horrifies my DH. We have a built in marble bench that is quite big in our shower. He has TWO things in there, I have maybe 40...scrubs, masks, gels, shaving stuff, condtioners, etc...he just cannot get over it. I truly feel I have a sickness sometimes..I end up with literally three of the same color, because I forget I own it and when I see and like it I get it. it is like black purses...I now try to be open to colors and try not getting the same neutral pinky brown lipstick...the withdrawal is terrible!!!

Mara I love candles too and use Yankees - I hoard them!!! Love to light the fire in winter, candle burning, cats on lap, pepsi max in hand and I''m good to go!!
I''m a candle hoarder too. Apparently hoarding is a mental disorder - lol - according to a newspaper article I recently read
9.gif
At any rate, I have about 30-40 Yankee candle voltives that I''ve yet to burn. When we move, I''ll have more room (as in the space around my jet tub) to put display and burn them. Can''t wait.
36.gif
I just love gloating like an old witch over my lovely Yankee Candles!! MC don''t you find it''s hard to light a new one in case it gets all sooty and yuk? Oh won''t you have fun with your lovely new house displaying them, ooh a JET TUB!!

Hey Kaylagee, good luck with your happy event!!! I have a rooster named Vladimir, hope it doesn''t put you off your tea!!! Cock a doodle doo

I have tried to like Earl Grey and Lapsang Souschong, but they are revolting to my taste
14.gif
and I think I''ll stick to PG Tips!! I am a bit high maintenance, even though I am out with my horses all day, I always wear, foundation, powder, blusher and mascara, of course perfume!!!! My normal style is a Barbour, jeans, wellies and the odd diamond!! I do my own hair mainly, a friend cuts it, ( it is shoulder length blonde) nails are always a wreck due to my lifestyle!! I would love to be able to do more beauty wise, but like so many of us it is the time thing!!! Hey I recently discovered the Flextone exerciser belt it is great!!! I have back problems so can''t do ab crunches, so this is great for me!!!

I have had a similar experience Michelle! I was in a selfish mood and we were going out with friends that evening, the husband hates perfume too. I thought " knickers to him!" we would be sitting in a pub garden all night, so I gave myself a liberal spraying. He sneezed all night long - I felt really bad!

His wife can only buy " light" fragrances but they still set him off!!

hI, DiamondFan! I collect Montblanc pens and lipsticks, too. I stopped buying Chanel's lipsticks because the darker colors start to smell bad if you don't use them up in a hurry. Lancome, Dior and Nars lipsticks always stay fresh no matter how old they are.

Oh MC! Do tell! Have any pix???? The house is going to look great!

LOL... It''s so funny b/c I feel the same way about my bedding...most of which is still folded on top of the armoire b/c of the cats. I actually told my husband the other day...while I stood there actually petting my pillow...that I loved the fabric more than him and that I want to be wrapped and buried in it ROTFL!

Thanks Lorelei,

BTW I love that name because of character in the Anita Loos'' books(Gentlemen Prefer Blondes...Marry Brunettes)

LOL! Yes, Lapsang Souchong is a tough one. I first tried it a coffee & tea shop I worked at briefly. I love it but I have to be in the mood(I bought some for my mom and she was horrified.hhehee). I can drink Earl grey any day.

I''ve never tried an ab belt before but I''ve seen lots of adverts for them. Might be something to check out after the baby''s born. I didn''t know they really worked. At least they''re probably great posture reminders. I''ve learned that keeping the body aligned alone can make a slight diff in tone and huge diff in appearance.

Yes, I'll take a few photos, but I'm not sure if I can get the camera to work right now. . .usually my husband does this as the camera to PC upload cable (whatever this called) is all messed up. After we move, I'll take some decent photos. We're trying desperately to get our house slightly furnished before the kids see it (they're spending the night at grandmas the weekend we're closing/moving) so we're in a rush to find stuff. I'm totally pissed that we cannot find a solid wood dining room set. EVERYTHING is veneer which won't last more than a month in our household. . .even the expensive ones we've looked at are made with unsturdy finishes.

Madame Bijoux, I noticed Chanel going rancid, and it is the dark colors! They get a very distinct oily smell. I have lipsticks that are older than some of today''s pop stars, I collect and then do not want to use them up. I also have a fear of my favorite colors being discontinued...it always seems to happen to me. They say, well, it does not seem to be selling well all over the country. (Yet is never in stock when I want it). The girls at Saks in Phiilly always know to call me when the new stuff comes in...I am seriously addicted. I will buy 10 lipsticks in a day sometimes. I have nowhere to keep them, so now I am happy when I try one and it feels sticky and smells bad...I get to toss one out! I love it when it is a color I hated anyway and will not replace. MAC now has expiration dates on their stuff. I think mascara is the only one to really worry about. There is a company, FYI to all you makeup lovers who are hoarding the last bit of some discontinued color...it is in NY and it is called 3 custom color specialists. they will copy any color if you send some of it or come in. They also blend custom colors, so you can dream up your own new one!!!
Is Bal A Versaiiles Guerlain? You could get it on the web, probably!!!!

BaV is by Jean Desprez. Another former fragrance fling when I was deep into the Oriental perfumes. Great ambery scent.. I've ordered it several times online yrs ago. Will try to find the company's site ok?

eta: Still searching for the company in NY...but remembered that Strawberrynet.com also ships worldwide and has a wide selection including Bal A Versailles in all formulations. I've ordered from them twice (for no. 19 items) w/no problems.

there also Fragrance X for int'l shipping. their prices look a bit better too. i don't think I've ever ordered from them so I can't vouch. here's the url...

Dfan, There is def. something a bit Guerlainesque about BaV. Nuits Indiennes by Scherrer is the same way!

My mom wore a few, Bal A V is one of them. She tended to favor heavier scents, and I know she loved a lot by Guerlain. Shalimar was also a favorite of hers, and Jean Patou 1000. I do not love them on me personally, but they remind me of my mom. I have light eyes, and cannot wear regular opium. Any of the really dark ambers give me a migraine and I cannot stand it. Someone explained that people with light eyes have a chemisty thing with the dark perfumes...who knows? The ones that I cannot stand to smell are Clinique Aromatics (always sprayed too heavy) Giorgio Beverly Hills (all synthetic, so it would smell the same on everyone and not be changed by someone''s chemisty, I doubt it is even made anymore). and Tea Rose, which gives me a mother of a headache. I am VERY smell sensitive. Whenever I was pregnant, I could smell ALL things so strongly. I would throw up over someone''s deodorant or laundry soap smell. Perfume (eau de toilette, eau de parfum etc) ushould ideally be misted into the air and walked through, and actual perfume can go on pulse points. It should be something people standing close can smell. One should not bathe in it! If you want stuff to last, use the scent''s body products if they make them. Layering is so much better, and makes it last without being overpowering!

So true! My mom is a Guerlain loyalist(I blame her partly for my perfume obsession... she let me buy my first bottle in sixth grade!)..I admire them so much(esp. Vol de Nuit and L''Heure Bleue) but can only realistically live with Jicky and Vetiver. Believe me I''ve tried my best, on and off, for years LOL!

I thought I could do the whole exotic stereotype(brown eyes, brown skin, black hair here....I tried Opium, Cinnabar, Obsession, Habanita, Nuit de Noel, Youth Dew etc. anything spicy, ambery, peppery or syrup) for perfume but for my chemistry and personality the Green and Chypre families are much better.

I think I''ve gotten over my jealousy at women who can do the smoldering fragrances. Well, almost over it..lol! I still keep a stock of Tabu and Madini Amber oil when I want to feel like someone else.
***
I can''t bear most smells(and tastes) during the first part of my pregnancies either. I didn''t actually vomit but came droolingly close. shudder. perfume was out of the question.

I''m not familiar w/ Tea Rose but I have the same fear of Aromatics E., and Giorgio. I used to love Alfred Sung but it started to give me horrible migraine headaches..like a needle through the eye.

Excellent application tips! Layering is key...light veils of scent!

"...I was wondering if many of you share my other passion [ besides animals] , which is perfume? My faves are Chanel 19 for day, good ol'' Number 5 for night and Cristalle for warm days..."]

Yes, I do share this passion and these three you mention Lorelei are also three of my favourites, along with Annick Goutal Les Nuits d''Hadrien and Gardénia Passion, as well as a number of others. I love using the bath and body lines to match too!

Kaylee, if you can find it, try Opium D''Ete. It has vanilla and something else in it...it softens it and makes it great. I can wear it in the winter and it smells amazing. Tea Rose is vile to me. I like the smell of fresh roses but cannot stomach loads of it. I love clean, green scents, and think Fresh, Inc makes some nice ones...fruits and stuff. I have to be so careful with my tendency to get migraines, they are like an EYEPICK to the eye when they are bad! A smell is such a trigger to memory...I used to love Jergens cherry almond scent as a kid and one whiff brings me back. Also, Coppertone and Faberge organics shampoo put me right back in summer camp! If you get a chance to try this one form of Opium, give it a try...it is a limited edition which may be still around this summer, or you could google it and find it. When I tell you I love it I am not exaggerating. And my ultimate is the Jhivago 24K. I think you live near me if I remember, and Neiman''s in KOP carries it...AWESOME. Try it if you can!

I also remember reading that the late Paula Yates who was married to Bob Geldof used to mix Joy and Giorgio together, I can''t imagine how that would react, maybe better than I would think.

Boy am I glad this old thread was revived! I was looking through the entire thing because I didn''t see this thread when it was originally posted. I came across Mara''s post about monogrammed candles and thought that''s a good idea for a Christmas gift! I did a search for monogrammed candles and bought two archipelago monogrammed candles for Christmas gifts. I just hope they get here in time!
