Hi, can someone tell me if there is a way to tell the difference between a well cut Emerald and a not so great cut? We've been doing research the past couple of days and I feel like the information is rather contradicting. But I think we're leaning towards emeralds as opposed to rounds and have decided to go through JA. However, they don't have ASETs for their lab grown stones; we've asked about both rounds and emeralds. Any insight? Or any recommended YouTube videos that discuss how to tell such based on dimensions and visuals? These are some of the ones we've been looking at. From what I've read the black is most likely the camera reflecting? Please correct me if I'm wrong. Seems much trickier to discern well cut emeralds than rounds.

Favorite: https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/emerald-cut/3.58-carat-e-color-vs1-clarity-sku-11378756 (This is our favorite *assuming* the black flashes are the camera, if not the 5.28 is our second leading favorite)

Also, I'm still not entirely sure how to say thank you enough for all your help! This sight is so, so helpful. We've been using the search engine here to find stones and try to use links from here. I don't know if that helps or not, but we are so grateful for this forum, the knowledge here, and all the kind people who have been helping us!

I like the facet action of the 5.28 the best.
The 3.18 seems sleepy.
The 3.58 appears to have adjoining facets that go dark simultaneously.

That being said, I'm not a very good judge of ECs from pictures and videos...

Step-cuts are hard to judge by video/pics so unless you're OK to order one in and see for yourself, you're best to use a vendor with a concierge service. You need to find a stone that has the classic hall of mirrors effect (as @DejaWiz said, good facet action, clean steps), but in terms of ratio and other details, it can be a matter of personal taste.

Of the suggested stones, the 5.28 is the nicest stone but huge jump in price range. I'd certainly shop around.

Piling on that the 5.28 is the nicest. 3.58 goes dark through the middle all at once and 3.18 seems dull. 5.01 is my second favourite, but it also seems a bit dull compared to 5.28, though better than the 3.18.

On another note, the 5.01 H is a blue nuance/light blue (as stated on the report) and the 3.18 F is also one, but undisclosed.
The 5.28 is the clear winner here, in my opinion.
