Hey everyone,

I thought some PSers here would be interested in this GOG signature August Vintage OEC. I have a deposit on it, but I''m thinking that I''ll wait for something else. I''m pretty anxious about letting it go because I''m not sure how long I''ll have to wait until another OEC will come along that comes close to the specs that I''m looking for. I keep telling myself that I have to be 100% happy as it''ll be for an engagement ring (which I''d rather not upgrade in the future). But I love it enough to want to see it mounted & displayed here on PS!

It doesn''t come up on the search anymore so I''ll post it here:

There''s also a short clip that Jonathan shot for me of it here:

I hope I get to see it displayed on PS soon. I also feel bad for holding on to it, since another buyer may have wanted... So the wait continues...

What is your hesitation/disquiet about?

There was nothing that singularly ended the deal for me really. Which is probably why I put the deposit down for it in the first place. It was almost the right size, color & inclusion grade. It even had medium blue flor. to it (which I''d like)! But I think when it came down to it, I don''t want to regret buying something almost perfect for my GF when I know what would be perfect for her. At this point, I''ve waited over four months for the GOG OECs and several years to marry this woman; so what''s a few more months?!

The problem reminds me of one of the PSer''s signatures that talks about how much easier it is to find an eye clean stone than to find a "mind clean" stone. Now, I really get what he/she''s talking about.

In order for you to find the perfect diamond, you will need to clearly articulate and understand what you like and don''t like. I also passed on the first August Cushion because it was not square enough for me. Jon then was able to cut one that is a perfect 1.0 ratio. You have to keep in mind that no diamond will ever be PERFECT - there will be some aspects you have to accept. For me, I purchased the diamond even though I wanted a smaller culet. I still love it though.

Its a pretty stone ... was it the inclusion that bothered you? Just curious ... What's the plan now? Look at vintage OECs? I found some very small ones at Old World Diamonds & another vendor, Erica Grace, gets some beauties. Look forward to seeing what *does* make the cut!

There is a PHENOMENAL looking ring on Singlestone right now ... dunno if this link will work but its under the "Handcrafted & Vintage Inspired" section ... & is a 1.57 H VS2 (EGL cert) OEC in a handcrafted platinum setting that is TO DIE FOR. No price is posted though. You'd have to email them to see if its in budget.

@charmypoo: thanks for the advice. I''ve already communicated why I was turning away from the rock, but I''ll be sure to follow up with Jon with greater detail. I understand what you''re saying about "perfect" too. It''s a great point that I''ll have to keep in mind. I almost feel like I''m on a modern day treasure hunt. I''m looking for a jewel that may never exist so I keep my eye out & hassle GOG for production updates. While I may not find the perfect rock, I think with this I''m just passing in hopes of coming upon a "greater" fit.

@deco: the inclusion was a small part of why I turned down the rock. Jon (who I trust from his reputation here & my visit with him several months ago) said the diamond is eye-clean. The HD video confirmed that for me. For whatever reason (superstition maybe), I wouldn''t want this engagement ring "upgraded" in the future. So I want to be satisfied with the carat weight and cut first.
My plan now is to wait and see what GOG can produce in the coming months. Jon knows what I''m looking for and said that he''ll have stones I''ll be interested. It''s just a matter of time. This is 6+ years in the making so I''m trying not to rush it. My plans for the proposal is about set so that''s a big deal I don''t need to worry about. My GF though deserves to be engaged by now and I hate keeping her waiting

I also have to keep looking elsewhere for OECs. I haven''t embraced the idea of buying vintage (again with the superstition). I''m in love with the look of the GOG work, so it''ll be hard for me to be pleased elsewhere. Thanks for the recommendations; I''ve been having trouble finding other sources.

Cheers,

You are being coy MMIC

What specs are you waiting for? This one isn''t perfect/the one... what specs would "the one" have? That is what I am curious about!

haha Dreamer- I''m not trying to be coy! Sorry for the late reply, the email alerts aren''t reaching me. Jon''s also told me that the 1.24 has been picked up already!

I''m looking for the following (somewhat in order of importance)
optimal light performance (why I''m shopping with GOG - I''d love other recommendations)
x carat wt; 1.3Color >H (whiter)
Inclusions >SI1 (unless the inclusions are well positioned)
Strong blue fluorescence would be great; I like the look & appreciate even more differentiation!

The size is limited by her fingers. Any larger would be too big (I know that''s a term some PSers abhore). Any smaller, I think I might regret the stone later on. I know it''s a long shot, especially with GOG''s limited production.

Is that what you were looking for?!

I see, so this one was a little smaller than you hoped and had lower clarity than you hoped! I think it is good to hold out for what you really want, that way you won''t regret it later on.

If you want a chunky monkey cushion like the AVs, then really I personally think that GOG is the way to go. But it could bea wait! Some other people have had a lot of success with Mark at Engagement Rings Direct, both with modern cushions and with vintage chunky cushions. If modern is what you like, I have also heard good things about the new BGD cushions.

I love the first scene in that clip.

Rhino, you shouldn''t compliment your own work! haha... Like Picasso ran around all day saying, "I love them sunflowers I painted yesterday!"
