So.. let's talk dyed pearls.

:)

Good.. bad... the ugly.. anything you want to say?

When I first started looking at pearls I didn't realize that black was a dyed color in freshwater and akoya. Naive, I know! I have ONE strand that is dyed and I honestly do not feel the same about it that I do my natural colored, or other pearls... I don't know.. they feel costume-y on me.

I think that high quality dyed freshies can be quite beautiful. :cheeky:

I think FlyGirl's new strand are a fabulous example of that! :appl:

Thanks, iLander. But, I have to agree that these funky, colorful dyed pearls that I'm seeing a lot of these days are pretty much costume jewelry. High quality natural pearls, like my Sea of Cortez baroque, are absolutely awesome. I would not spend the big bucks on dyed pearls. And, I hate the dyed black pearls that have a sooty look. They remind me of home-dyed hair...kind of over-colored and unnatural.
