That screams as PR wrote it. He was laughing his a$$ off then "it was too much for him to bear" give me a break.

My thoughts exactly.

Hollywood is full of “eccentric” people who won’t get help. I didn’t realize the Academy Awards were a good platform upon which to have a public mental breakdown but what do I know.

I don't really have an opinion either way, celebs are unicorns that get treated super special. But I do think it's sad people are celebrating this gross display of toxic masculinity for "defending" his wife, gag.

I thought the same things @autumngems stated. Will Smith had around 30 minutes to cool down and realize he had done something awful before accepting his award. Smith looked very proud of himself as he strutted back to his seat after slapping Rock. He wasn’t remorseful about what he had done throughout the evening even at the after parties. The whole PR post was damage control. Who would want to work with someone who wasn’t mature enough to control his anger?

Will comments in his apology speech about “love will make you do crazy things” are words every battered women has heard from the man who hit her.

Hi,
A very immature man! To me this personifies how grievances about any perceived slight gets taken way out of whack in our society. Mrs B. has the right take on the incident IMO.

Its there for all of us to see. America is on display. This is US.

Has anyone seen this video? Why does it look like Jada is laughing here...

ETA: I put in under a spoiler since it's the uncensored version.

Sorry, Will - too little, too late. I did read that Will should've slapped Jada's stylist for choosing that dress. :lol-2:

Hollywood is indeed strange. I have a lot of family and friends involved in entertainment one way or another. Will takes it to another level.

Yep, some of the dresses I see, I wouldn't let my dog wear. It's about who is most extravagent and shows the most skin these days (then proceed to act like it was a wardrobe malfunction when there is a nipple or crotch shown, it's all planned)

Agree, you don't ask, you tell and enforce with security.

No bad idea. Can imagine the outrage if a scuffle broke out due to trying to escort Will Smith out of the room. Given what he just did it would not surprise me that he would not go. At this point, everyone is drawing their own conclusions which is much better. People reveal themselves if you let them.

Suppose Chris Rock had been wearing hard contact lenses or if he had undergone recent eye surgery or other surgery on his mouth or face?
He could have been blinded or seriously injured for life.

I didn't think it was staged at first. I had trouble with the context of Will defending Jada's feelings, BUT, there were also several other factors involved such as male ego, black women's hair, and a lot of drama involving the Smiths in the recent past. Oh, and the irony that Chris Rock was one of the producers and narrator of a documentary called Good Hair several years ago. So I thought SURELY these people wouldn't participate in something so ridiculous at their Academy's publicly televised/streamed awards ceremony--why belong to the organization if you don't take it seriously? Why accept its awards and accolades if you're going to purposely make a mockery of it?

But then I saw this a few days ago: https://thesource.com/2022/03/29/wi...ly-set-to-take-slap-fiasco-to-red-table-talk/. The whole situation seems entirely suspect to me now. It's almost like celebrities create controversy to stay relevant!

Other than my opinion that it was indeed staged, I'm disappointed for the many Academy members who were first-time nominees or winners, for whom their moments were overshadowed by the absolute f*ckery that was Smiths vs
Rock, WWE-style.

If their intention was to bring (and I say "their" because I think it's possible the Smiths/Tucker orchestrated this fiasco) awareness to alopecia survivors, I don't think the Oscars was the platform. My mother has alopecia and wears wigs in public; she certainly never expected my father to defend her from any potential insults. He wouldn't have made a spectacle of something like it anyway by hitting someone else. He would've given them one look and the offender would've slunk away with their tail between their legs.

Jada is definitely going to get the focus back on her; Will declined GMA's invitation for an interview and will instead be appearing on Jada's Red Table talk show. Funny how that worked out, innit?

If that theory were correct then Chris Rock would have to be in on it too in order for it to be staged. And it doesn’t make sense for him to do that in order to prop up Jada‘s show. This is going to hurt Smith; he’s already resigned from the Academy and there is talk of some other projects being pulled.

Will Smith is in his "f*ck-it Fifties." I'm starting to think he doesn't assign as much pride to an award as one would expect.

I disagree. He's been waiting for years to get an Oscar. If he diminished it, it's because he screwed up and knows he will probably never get another one. He has resigned from the Academy and will still be disciplined. And he probably will not get offered the same parts that he would have in the past. He is now a risk. Although he is 53, not many actors choose to retire at that age. Funny, everything I read says Denzel told him to pray.

I've been seeing this too. Not sure why this has been added to the story, unless it's to "soften the blow" (not sure if that pun is intended) to his career/image as a sort of amends.
Actors praying after a PR debacle is so Hollywood.
