Let's play a game... rainbow gems.

Okay I have a green to post - it is not in my hands - its stuck in customs - but I can post the vendor video! I'll post my photos later on.

1.9ct no heat green zoisite with a tsavorite-esque color. I have an obsession with this material but I think this is the one that will fully satisfy me regarding this material. I bought a slightly included smaller one in the past and wanted to upgrade to clean + over 1ct. The color -if accurate- is similar to my smaller one and impressive for zoisite where the typical greens tend to be grayish/olive. The cut appears to have half-half extinction but I believe I can accept it - if not perhaps it can be tweaked without going under the 1.5ct mark.

Of course - there is always bigger and better, like this 12ct one (!) for 20k.

Another green obsession I've had is pallasite peridot. I came across this JP based seller who surprisinlgy sells internationally via Buyee. These are the real deal with the irridescsent flash and several over 0.5ct size. I am tempted but don't think I'll bite even though the prices seem fair. Still, just have to share because I have never seen so many fine big ones listed at once - bucket list gem for sure :kiss2:

I've realized over the years that green is my favorite gem color. Both scared an excited for when I inevitably decide 'need' a $$$ emerlad :$$):

So interesting, @toomuchB ! Is the green zoisite pleochroic? If so, what colours does it show?Pallasite peridot is just fascinating! I can understand why you would want one (or maybe two?). I love green, too.

The smaller one I currently have does show some pleochrism but its not very dramatic. There's a more bluish green axis, a yellowish green axis and a brownish-olive axis. Face-down the bluish vs yellowish green colors are quite obvious but it doesn't read well on camera. Some examples I have seen online are far more dramatic. It will be interesting to compare the two. I need to buy a dichroscope!

This one has similar pleochroism colors to my smaller one. This is more dramatic due to the cut angle I assume. Mine is a uniform color-face up.

@toomuchB This is THE finest green zoisite I have EVER seen!! I mean, it's perfection. How on earth did you find it? The color reminds me of the famous Valle Verzasca in Switzerland... a magnificent emerald pool. I can't wait to hear your review and see your pix. Any inspiration for how you will set it (if you decide to)?

P.S. It is nearly impossible to avoid a little extinction at the terminals of these elongated cuts. Doesn't faze me in the slightest. It's a non-issue in my opinion, so please don't let it temper your enjoyment.

Beautiful view! It is the second stone I have bought from @east_african_gems on IG, the first was also a fine colored green zoisite (the one I discussed above). I think I bought the first one in 2023, and only now he came across another. Although a user here had an issue with his photography not matching reality, that was for an opalescent sapphire which are unpredictable and shifty. The first one I bought from him was very accurately depicted so I am hoping this one is as well. When I get it in hand I will update in the 'recent vendors we've had good experiences with' thread. Setting - maybe after I see it I will decide!
Selller -
Yes, they are hard to find but they exist more than intense pink zoisites - pinks are almost always so pale or too purple. In that timeframe (2023-now) I found one other piece available, 1.5-ish carats from a UK dealer, but it was more than I was willing to spend when paired with the taxes. So 3 fine greens in total. Meanwhile I came across 1 intense pink one that sold before I could inquire (and it had some orange pleochroism showing face up which is not ideal)
The same UK dealer still has some nicer than average greens available.

Just for fun, from a GIA paper, described as 'the finest color seen by the the authors'

My pink spinel from Wildfish Gems. I miss Wildfish Gems!

Lovely! I bought my first pink spinel from Ed too. It was a princess step cut. Never seen anything like it before or since! I sold it awhile back only because it was smaller than the stones in my current collection. But the color, clarity and cut were phenomenal.

A cerulean dream!! Does it have a double star?? Is he new?? :mrgreen2: Lovely!!

Thanks, @Autumn in New England ! I got it earlier this year. It shows double stars when there is more than one light. It is fun to see the stars even when there isn’t a focused, bright light shining on the ring.

Thanks for sharing where you got the stone, @toomuch8, and for answering my question about pleochroism.
I follow East African gems too but I haven’t bought from them. It’s good to know that they have such unusual and high quality pieces..

Thank you! The cut is called sun spirit. No, I don't wear pendants. It will make a BIG ring in yellow gold ...
Wow, what an app name, @Starstruck8. That will be magnificent!
