Let's play a game... rainbow gems.

oh my goodness have i been holding up the works ?
this must have been when Gary was very sick
we have lost June, (i missed the 12 day war completly)

now we have swine flu, i would say while misserable its probably only a milder case) Gary got it in the hospital, i did not give it to him but of course i have it now, he has had 3 dozes of tamiflu and IV fluids, im suffering away old school with water and panadol, im not contagouse now but it exhusted me going in yesterday (i didnt go in over the weekend) i could hardly walk along those endless hospital corrridors, my legs felt like concrete

anyway my long awaited thistle brooch
i should take a nicer photo but we seem to only have one cellphone charger between us and Gary has it in the hospital

I just love that you can clearly see blue and pink flashes in the stones. This brooch is gorgeous! Big congrats on that beauty... I hope it brings you a lifetime of happiness.

You and poor Gary have been through it these last couple of months. Jeez... I hope there are only blue skies awaiting you from here!

You know, I tend to only post my transparent, faceted gems, but translucent and opaque gems need more love on this forum. Here's some rhodochrosite I cut/polished for the pink spot. I made the necklace and had the Native American ring and pendant commissioned. The latter is like 4" long. That community is not shy. lol

ORANGE officially plays next, but remember... you can always insert BROWN, BLACK, GRAY, or WHITE at any point into the rotation!

@Daisys and Diamonds I love your brooch! The pink flashes are gorgeous. :kiss2:Hope Gary is recovering and that you are getting some rest yourself.

IOh girl, you outdid yourself with these! The color and glow are :kiss2: . What is the gold karatage? It looks like luscious 22k. lol
I think it’s 18K. Will try to take some photos outdoors. We had some crazy thunderstorms today.
By the way, I’ve never seen, rhodochrosite like yours. It is such an intense pink :kiss2:

It was a recut. Stone has long colorless needles (twin lamaele, rose channels or rutile can not say 100% which) microscope i got only 20x. Amphibole (green) that made the purple color effect in this stone, healing fractures colorless, spinels and orange garnets. Rubys from Tanzania has not the typical color zoning. Stone looks more orange-red on naked eye than pictures 2-5 from the cutter. He sold the stone as brownish orangy reddish sapphire. But im to 99% sure that must be a Winza Ruby. I will sent to GIA or GRS in the next weeks.

I don't think I've ever seen a precision cut ruby. lol Phenomenal! So clean too...

Took me a long time to find material that pink! Seems you either have the washed out tones or the smaller $$$ faceted stones.

I can't wait to see more photos of your earrings!

It's a rather unique shade of red, which is so interesting. I think you may be right about origin. Check back in with the lab results!

Time to get moving, so posting this pinkish-orange spinel (right) that I considered but didn’t buy. It is such a yummy tray of Mahenge spinels! IMG_0231.jpeg

I must've developed dyslexia overnight... skipping blue, since we already did it, let's move on to PURPLE! A little out of order, but we'll manage.

Purple spinel! One side is PURPLE purple and the other side is. . . Pale/pastel purple? Kept this one as is. There’s an inclusion running along the part where the color splits in two, so I was told it was risky to cut.

That looks like the yummiest grape jelly candy I've ever seen! I collect specimens as well, but not of the finer variety. I have lots of agates and jaspers. lol
