Let's play a game... rainbow gems.

@Autumn in New England do you think we could come up with a mechanism to prevent situations you can see in the last few posts, where this thread stagnates because some colors are just less popular? And then a user has to wait to post their piece, and might end up not doing so even once the color comes back up. Happens every now and then.
Not sure what mechanism. Maybe a 'rule' that after a few days of no yellow, for example, a user can skip to green to keep things going.
But that might just confuse people about the order/method of this thread/create chaos.
Just thinking out loud. It functions well as it is, too.

Yellow then green.

Okay, for @Nick_G, I'll cheat a little so we can get to blue.

I just paid for this 0.86ct Baja sphene but money still has to get to the seller's account and therefore it hasn't even been shipped, and I don't have it in hand.
Might not seem that impressive to some but IYKYK.
I've been hunting for a fine quality 0.5+ct sphene for 5 years.

@toomuchB thanks! Looks like chrome sphene with the saturated green colour. Beautiful.

OK, here is my blue:
Kashmir sapphire 3.JPGKashmir sapphire 4.JPGKashmir sapphire 1.JPGKashmir sapphire 2.JPG

This just goes to show you really can get bargains on eBay. It's 6.24 grams, or 31,2 ct of sapphire, with zoned blue. The smaller crystal shown in the first two pics is also zoned, but in such a way that when light hits it from above it is filled with the most beautiful blue colour. The crystals are also transparent to translucent, so a small gem could very likely be cut from it in theory, but that would be a criminal act IMHO hahaha.

This specimen cost about $40 before P&P (from the US to the UK, and about $68 including P&P. That's a damn good price for a gem sapphire specimen period, but what makes this one even more special is it's from the famous mines in Kashmir, India. The seller didn't know if it was from the original finds, but he apparently obtained it from an old collection. This and the gorgeous colour suggests it may be old 19th century stock.

This is why I love eBay. Sometimes you never know what you could end up winning...

We need more of these collector selling thing. Where do u find these types of listing! :oops2:

It is rare. I've seen it happen twice. This time it was just an IG poster with a niche collection whose interests shifted. The other time was a collector liquidating a huge collection of faceted stones via arkenstone/irocks.
On social media the accounts that have 'NFS' written everywhere will occaisionally be open to selling something if you just strike up a friendly conversation, lol.
But I prefer to stick to proper sellers, with return policies and reputations as sellers not just collectors - so this was an exception for me.

I regrettably had to cancel the sphene purchase (medical expenses) so I asked the Mods to remove the image.

Let me help you to fast forward this thread to blue. Attaching my orange?/reddish orange?/or maybe a little brownish rutile crystal.

That is gorgeous! Is it strawberry quartz? Although that would include needles goethite as opposed to rutile, so maybe not. Anyway... love.

Oh definitely... really, post whatever you want! I more so just wanted a really colorful thread. It might mess with some people's OCD, but I don't think they have to be in strict order. And feel free to include brown, gray, white, or black too.

I have a yellow. This ring is a toi et moi so you get a bonus colour included
Yellow chrysoberyl and purple garnet IMG_7503.jpeg

I've never seen this particular combo... and it is GLORIOUS!

I've never seen that true of a green in sphene. Like, ever! Now will he have the typical fire associated with the gem? And it's an octagon... swoon.

I don't know why, but the first thing I thought (because of the cool shape) was everlasting gobstopper. :mrgreen2: That is really interesting... how do you find these beautiful specimens? Ebay is such a jungle. Although they have a FAR superior search function than Etsy. They really, really need to improve that. I've stopped shopping etsy because of it. You search ruby melee and get inundated with 1,000+ results of, like, custom traffic cones.

Oh pity, I'm sorry to hear that. But you can leave the photo/post if you want. That's another thing.... we need not only post gems we own, but maybe just ones we admire. Anyway, I hope whatever is ailing you resolves quickly. Thank you for your valuable contributions to this thread!

Thank you for the well wishes! I think everything will be fine, not to worry.

For the sake of the seller I think its better the photo be removed. I am not 100% sure he would be ok with his photo posted. In fact, I probably should not have posted it in the first place without checking first. Sorry!

Lets pretend, then, once the mods remove the image, that this was the stone, because it is the same material and was almost mine. But this one is from Russia not Baja.
I am still kicking myself for not snapping it up. I had it reserved. It was a super fair price. I decided it was too included and I don't love this type of cushion shape. A shame I've missed out on two but hopefully I'll get the next one!

I had never heard of chrome sphene until now. That color! Does it have the same rainbow fire of the traditional material? Your perfect piece will come along at just the right time. =)2

Glad you're well!!

I think the rainbow fire is more muted than what you expect from sphene but it's there. Probably depends on the stone. Here's an exceptional Russian one. You can see some red and yellow flashes despite it being behind plastic but it's not super dramatic.

I would love to, but in what order?

Just noticed how blue it’s leaning on my screen. The stone is decidedly purple irl

I think I'd take the trade. This color is what all demantoid aspires to be (but you only see in museums). I really dislike that muddy colored sphene, although the fire is spectacular. Thanks for teaching me something new!
