You guys have such amazing "eyes" and way more knowledge than I when it comes to diamonds, so....what stone/ring would you buy if you had 100K budget???

Can be any shape, color, clarity, etc. and let's not count out any "pre-loved" stones!

GO!!!

Hi IceQueen,

Can I please clarify - you did mean 100k (not 10k) right for any single ring?

Ooops.

The budget is 100K????

Not 10K???

Oy. Okay. That's totally different.

This ring is more than double your budget (and thats at half off the original listing price! lol)

But id get a stone this shape, as close to 5 cts as I could, in a solitaire. This is a D IF cartier, so alas all i can do is go and drool over it whenever someone posts a thread like this, but still i think a solitaire marquise is what id do with that budget. Fancy shapes, IMHO, get more elegant at larger sizes where rounds reach a certain point were they just look like door knockers.

Oh, I love this thread! The first ring that comes to mind is the Cartier OEC with bezeled baguettes recently purchased by RandG. It is just perfection. My other two loves would be a 3+ ct emerald cut and an AVC/antique cushion.

Something like these (probably could find better ones, but these were easily searched!):

It's 125K but hey if I had 100K for a ring, I could drum up 25K more.

Thank you Diamondseeker.... :)

If this is a real exercise, I would encourage the poster to attend/register for some of the big auctions on the calendar through year end, starting with the Bonhams auction this week. These are excellent places to find an exceptional, possibly even signed piece, for less than typical retail, if you know what you're buying and buy well.

Way cool. It would definitely be a cushion for me, most likely the largest, best cut greenish yellow FCD I could afford, set in hand forged halo of whites.

My second choice would be an antique cut cushion like the AVC as large as I could go, high white, VS2 most likely. Probably do an Art Noveau style setting for the ring.

Most likely I would leave enough to buy a Cartier Panthere bangle.

But this is my personal taste. I would most likely do all three and go down in size on each, first would be a ring, second a collier and then the bangle.

Auctions are a great idea. If this is for real suggestions for you OP and not our dreams, then we should know your taste to make suggestions.

RandG -

I just saw the three stone in your photo for the first time and it's gorgeous! Would you mind telling me what type of stones they are and their ct weight? I love the ratio between the stones, and it's the picture that's been in my head for some time now but I haven't been able to work out what sized stones I'd need to recreate that kind of look.

Thank you!

ETA Sorry - when I said what type of stones - I should have said what cut of diamond.

Mrs.-Blop: Thank you! These are modern rounds, H VS1, 2.50 center, and 1.25 on each side. I searched a long time and found a 2:1 ratio worked best for me. Some people like 3:1. I would try both.

RandG - Thanks so much!

I have a 2.15ct stone (as per avatar pic) and originally tried it with .75 stones - ie a 3:1 ratio. Didn't love it and pulled it apart. I think the 2:1 ratio looks fabulous.

Thank you for the info!

No problem! You have the perfect size center for a three stone. Will make for fantastic finger coverage if you do a 2:1 ratio. Fun project :)

Do we have to stop at 100K. With 100K I'd buy a number of things, a variety..... But I probably have to win lotto to buy either one of my dream stones;

Diamonds by Lauren 5.36 D VVS1 unfortunately for me 3.5 times 100K;

11.88 Fancy Intense Yellow Asscher Ring. Just over a cool half a mill;
