After 6 months of searching and the jeweler almost giving up we finally came up with a ring for my fiancée. I what to know what you experts think of the measurements of my diamond. I love it and I know my future fiancée will, however, I''m really curious to what "Ideal" is. These are straight off my GIA certification papers

Measurements 6.51 - 6.57 x 4.07 mm
Depth 62.2%
Table 60%
Girdle Medium, Faceted

I''m curious to know what Ideal is, or constitutes a perfect diamond

I am no expert but I know that you need to have a few more measurements before any of the real experts can comment on the cut quality... do you have the crown or pavilion angles?

Did you get a Sarin report with your diamond - if so, that will have everything you need to know.

My GIA certification did not include the crown or pavilion angles. My guess is I have to get a gemologist to take a look @ the diamond for me to determine those. And no I did not get a Sarin report. Will the company I bought the diamond from perform that for free?

I''m not sure if you can do that once it is set (I may be wrong - let''s wait for someone who knows more than me to chime in here).

In any case, the important thing is that you are happy with it. I''m sure she will love it.

if they have a sarin or helium machine, they would be able to scan the loose diamond.

If the diamond is still loose, see if you can find someone who can run a sarin (if you want more cut info). Ask your jeweler or an independent appraiser.

Also, the info you provided from your GIA report is practically nothing. You didn''t even mention the carat size or girdle.

Also, some people might consider the table to be a bit on the large side, but you are talking to someone with a diamond with a 60% table too, so I won''t say anything

. The depth is a little deep, but if the girdle is thin to medium or so, that really shouldn''t matter. Is your diamond about 1 carat?

Here are all the specs I have

Shape Round Brilliant
Measurements 6.51-6.57 x 4.07 mm
Weight 1.06 carat

Depth 62.2%
Table 60%
Girdle Medium Faceted
Cutlet None
Polish Very Good
Symmetry Very Good
Clarity VS2
Color Grade H
Fluorescence None

Thats all I have. They just set the stone in platinum so I guess getting a Sarin report would be a hassle. I can see the reflection of the table just below the midpoint of the diamond. I remember reading that half is ideal. I''m still very happy at this point. I wish that they would always shine as much as they do in the stores

As long as you are happy, don''t start worrying now! It is gorgeous to you (and I''m sure your fiancee will agree) and that is all that matters. Enjoy it and don''t forget to post pics hehe

I will post pics probably on Monday or Tuesday. She left for Chicago to go spend some money and took the digital camera. Now for the wait when we fly down to South Beach Florida in March. The plan is to wake her up before the sun rises on the East Coast. As the sun rises I will tell her I want to get a picture. As a beach goer passes by I will ask them to take a picture with the sun coming up over the water in the background. It is then when I will get down on one knee and ask the woman I love to marry me. I''m really looking forward to that day.
