Today I started browsing for that time in the not so distant future(I hope) I will be getting a fancy yellow diamond. So I went to a local independent jeweler and put together a set that I liked. I don''t have a pic (sorry) but I want to know what you guys think about the price I was quoted. Is it good, bad, or ugly!?!?!

1.13 carat VS2 fancy yellow diamond

Set in a custom made rose gold 3 mm band

The price I was quoted for the custom band with the diamond was $4490.

Thanks for your input! I appreciate it!!

Seems very low to me but it is hard to tell without the measurements for the stone.

Was the diamond naturally yellow or treated? For natural true yellow, something certainly seems odd. For treated it's in the ballpark...

And who certified the color/stone?

The price will really depend on what type of "fancy yellow" it is. Is it "fancy light yellow", "fancy intense yellow", fancy vivid yellow?"...There can be huge prices differences between these labels and you want to make sure you know enough about color to know which one you want and whether the price is reasonable.

For a "fancy yellow/brown" or "fancy light yellow" the price sounds reasonable...but you definitely won''t be getting "vivid" or "intense" for that price.

Ok, I found out what the deal is. The man who owns the store is a GIA graduate gemologist. He graded the stone himself, there is no GIA cert for it. Secondly, it is a nautral fancy light yellow diamond. Since he is a Graduate Gemologist, he said that on any stone that he graded himself, he guarantees that the GIA will grade within 1 color or clarity level above or below what he graded. That doesn''t sound so good

Does anyone know of a good place to find a nice natural yellow diamond? I noticed that Ice.com has them. Are they a good place to buy them?

Mark @ ERD (Engagement Rings Direct) can get them for you easily, he's great and is in the heart of the diamond district. Diamonds by Lauren also has a stock of them too, and I have heard decent things about them. But personally, I would start with Mark. He's good at fancy diamonds.

Neatfreak,

Thank you for the recommendation! I don''t know nearly as much about fancy yellow diamonds as I do about the non-colored diamonds.

None of us do really! But Mark is a very honest man, and wonderful to work with. I am sure that he can steer you in the right direction. Plus he has the advantage of being able to walk over to check things out in person at the suppliers!
