OH sad day! I saw this posting at the Art of platinum facebook page just as I search for the perfect wedding band to wear with my e-ring. I don''t want to see his pictures of destruction! Ignorance is bliss, right? :-) Anyone have pics to prove we really shouldn''t wear rings together? I figured who the heck cares about a few scratches... but worse?

QUOTE>>> "Leon Mege "The Art of Platinum" My dear friends! I am preparing an article for my web site on dangers of wearing two rings on the same finger. I am looking for illustration material. If you have an old engagement ring (does not matter whether made by me or not) that has been worn out by wedding band please send me a close up snapshot. Does not have to be shot perfectly - as long as it''s in focus it will do. Happy New Year!"

Weird. Wouldn''t he NOT want to advertise that two rings being worn together can cause damage as that may reduce his business?

From what I have known he has always said many of his rings should not be worn with a wedding ring. Diamonds rubbing against diamonds is never a good thing. And since many of his settings are 3 sided pave, they really shouldn't be worn with a wedding ring. I am guessing, he's looking for proof of this, but an odd way to go about it....

I can understand. When you create something beautiful you really don''t want to see it get abused. Diamonds rubbing together for Leon is probably like finger nails on a chalkboard for the rest of us!

LOL!

I wonder if he has recently recieved an influx of his creations that need repair because they were worn with other rings?
(Not from PSers of course- we know to use a spacer)

I imagine repairs would be time consuming and a waste of his studio''s talent if there is high demand for new comissions already.

I don''t understand how wearing a spacer helps, it''s still metal rubbing against and wearing out other metal. Can someone explain this to me?

I think the idea is that metal-metal is a far less abusive relationship than diamond-metal or diamond-diamond, but soldering or wearing only one ring is the only way to completely eliminate the issue.

I do think that if you were to wear, say, a silver band between two gold rings you're in for trouble long-term - a matching metal spacer is a better idea.

ETA: It's interesting that Leon has taken this project upon himself... I wonder how it will turn out?

yes, yssie has it right. Metal rubbing against metal is ok. Metal rubbing against diamonds?

7 of my stacking bands: diamonds/sapphires/emeralds/rubies are CHANNEL set - I know everyone doesn't like 'em that way, but NO worries about diamonds rubbing and I love to stack them every which way.

I think it makes total sense that Leon wants to publicize this. From everyone who has worked with him, Leon is an artist, and I think runs his business in that way. So, if you are an artist it''s more important to you to keep your artwork intact than to make a higher profit...

lol Yeah, that makes sense. Hopefully his project is successful. I'm curious to see the photos that he uses as examples.

I always suggest that once one is married that the two rings are tack soldered together at the bottoms of their shanks to prevent any rubbing and to keep each from spinning independently. THis keeps the wear to zero from rubbing and always has both ring tops facing upwards. This can be done even with eternity wedding bands although the bottom portion will be subject to more waer than the rest. Truthfully, if one solders the rings in place, the eternity can really be a 3/4 eternity with a nice durable, future sizing segment in the bottom.
