I need some advice - I''m pretty sure I will be reseting my 2.02 round brilliant in a Leon Mege three stone w/pear sides (it is now a solitaire). But I can''t decide between the ''pinched'' or ''Asprey'' look or the Plain shank. Can anyone who has either please post pictures or give me some advice on the difference in look/feel between the two? Thanks very much.

PS - Leon suggested .30 carats per pear side - would anyone agree or disagree with that size?

Sorry not lucky enough to own one myself...if he says .30 then it is .30. There is one thing I am certain...pairing pears with a round he IS THE MASTER-THE AUTHORITY. I wouldn''t second guess that at all.

That arrangement is my favorite. I started loving Kaleighs Tiffany it is SO stunning. When Kristy Darlings was presented I thought it was the most poetic marriage of the three stones. It still takes my breath away. And just look at Kaleighs avatar...oh baby!

Pinched or Plain:

When the point of the pear meets the shank...that pinch to me is magical. Reminds me of some intricate scientific aerodynamics. I could go on and yack about tail wings on a plane or boat hulls or automotive design...which is not what you think of when planning the design of your ring.

But the pinch looks more fluid and makes more sense when paired with a pear. Continuity of the point just extends a certain level of custom touch not found in the plain. If it were my 3 stone pear salad...I would want the pinch!

I am thrilled for you! Can''t wait to drool. (I promise not to swallow until you post your baby!)

Pinch O RAMA

Pinch ME I am DREAMIN
Why don't you ask him the size of these sides? The center is a 2.33 so it may be close in ratio to what yours is going to be. Perhaps it may make you feel better understanding how he came to marry these sides with that round. (image r779)

Even this marquis got PINCHED

I can't find a non pinched pear... would this be an example of PLAIN shank?

I agree on the size of the side stones. My ring, is from Tiff''s is 2.36 and has .68 TCW sides. So that will look great. I am not sure what you mean by pinched... Or the Asprey look...

I have a 3-stone ring made by WF. I have the statistics and photos of others'' rings that are in great proportion. For now, let me give you the ratios.

Mine: center 2.383, pears 0.81 ctw, ring size 5.75-6
???: center 1.76, pears 0.60 ctw, ring size 5
(She later changed her pears to rounds because she did not like the "marquise" look of the combination. We all thought the original combination 9and shape) was perfect though.)
xxx: 1.85 center, pears 0.61 ctw, ring size 4.75
ChristyDarling: center 3.56, pears 1.14 ctw, ring size 3.5
kaleigh: center 2.36, pears, 0.68, ring size 5(?)

Hope this information helps.

As for your question about the pinch. I have mine purposely made with a pinch at the base of the pear and then transition to a rounded edge for comfort. This way, I have the best of both worlds, an elegant look and comfort.
FYI - ??? who changed her sides stones from pears to rounds (about one year of wear) complained about the discomfort with the knife edge that goes all the way around the ring. I think her "upgraded" ring has a rounded edge.

Definately get the Asprey shank! Leon works magic...the pinched shank then flows out to a rounded back. The flow is fabulous.

See how at the tip of the pears the shank is pinched almost like a knife edge? The pinch then flows out and disappears into the back. The pinch does not go all the way around the back.

That''s one of my favourite pictures

I have to resist the urge to drool over that one. I love it!

Frankiextah was the poster named above who was not happy with her ring/knife edge shank. HERE.

The pinched shank on KristyDarling''s ring is gorgeous!

another vote for the Asprey shank!!

Asprey, hands down. And the size sounds spot on; he seems to have a knack for side stones and the proportions to the center.

Thank you all for your input! I will definitely post pictures once the ring is finished.

PS- I am definitely going to go with the Asprey but not a knife edge all around. Thanks again.

Great choice - we''ll be waiting for your pictures!

I can''t wait to see it!

i am also in the process of having leon reset my ring into the same setting, and have also decided to go with the Asprey.

can''t wait to see your completed ring!

Wow! The pinches look amazing!! What gorgeous pics!
