For anyone here who has used Leigh Jay Nacht for an antique reproduction setting (setting only, no stone), were you happy with the quality, service and price? Did you get any type of discount? Thanks for any feedback!
Hello Katie: I went to NYC last month on vacation and visited LJN's showroom. All I can say is, "OH MY!" They had gorgeous, gorgeous authentic antique rings and antique reproduction settings. All were listed at very reasonable prices. My FI and I have looked at thousands of settings for over 2 years. I knew what I wanted and couldn't find it anywhere. I considered going custom with Single Stone but I chickened out.
I walked into LJN and we found EXACTLY what I have been looking for in less than 5 minutes!!! Kiesha is a dream to work with. She took a lot of time with me and let me try on everything I wanted. I also met Leigh Jay, who was equally as nice, while my FI watched the setter do his work at the bench. I just sent my AVR to them last week to be set. They are going to set it in the repo below. They are scheduled to be finished next week. I have sent Keisha no less than 12 emails. She quickly and professionally responded to each one. I can be rather particular and she has eased my fears. If I am driving her clinically insane she has not yet let on! If my repo turns out like the exact 2 examples I saw in the showroom I will be more than thrilled. I will post plenty of pictures hopefully next weekend.
Their online pictures are not the best but I found that IRL the setting looked identical to the picture posted except of course the ring and diamond were much more shiny.
Oh and yes...they offered a (I believe it was) 3% discount if I paid by bank transfer.
I wondered about their settings as well, some of the photos online make the settings look like they might not be very good quality. At some point I need to reset my cushion.
I know what you mean. A year ago they sent me a picture of a different setting and the milgrain was not consistent or crisp and the etching was not near symmetrical. In the picture the setting looked ... poorly crafted. I was skeptical when I visited IRL. They had 2 examples of the setting I have ordered in the showroom with diamonds already set in them. We looked at the setting with a 16x loupe. Both settings looked nice. I have sent emails being pretty specific as to the visual quality I am expecting. If this does not work out I will consider myself forever ruined by PS and I will pay triple the money and go custom.
LJNs rings were gorgeous so I really hope this works out ... for me and for other future frugal PSers. I will keep you all posted.
I am watching this thread with interest. I've read reviews of their settings years ago where many said the settings were not substantial and workmanship just average (so-so milgraine, not super symmetrical, etching or engraving is not detailed, etc). If one doesn't look too closely, it is a pretty ring though and good for the price. I don't know if their setting quality have improved since then.
