I previously placed an order for a BGD H&A I SI1 1.058 http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamonds/diamond-details/1.058-i-si1-round-diamond-ags-104061594010 . Took my girlfriend to a local jewelry store to get more ideas/input on what she really likes. While she liked the 1ct size, she didn't seem wowed by it and I knew at that moment I should get something bigger.

I needed a stone to 'wow' here in most aspects. Looking back at all my previous threads and listening to all your opinions to stay within my budget, I have decided in going for a larger stone in the blue line. 1.232ct I SI1 w/ medium blue. http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamonds/diamond-details/1.232-i-si1-round-diamond-ags-bl-104061006035 At least with medium blue, it somewhat gives me a better mind-clean mentality rather than going with a strong blue. The blue fluor in blacklight situations is what hesitated me (and potentially my gf at first) we still go to clubs, events, etc.. At least with going medium, it will help that. Plus I've read that the fluor will help the I color look whiter when looked on face up.

I know I will barely notice it and will look absolutely amazing.

So what do you think? Is this the best choice for me? My preferences (in order) cut, size, color, clarity seem to be met pretty well with this stone.

I have made the request with Lesley, given that it is eye-clean and has no black inclusions.

Btw, this is going on the Novela! So it should look larger! I hope.
 
Just a curious question, it seems that there are some blue stones with VS2 that were sold recently but have the same price roughly. However, they were strong blue and very strong blue. Does stronger fluor discount these stones slightly more than a medium fluor?
 
ANY diamond that comes from Brian will be BEAUTIFUL with a ton of sparkle.
Not sure if our experience will help you, but here goes:
We narrowed it down to three stones; 2.04 with I color and med. fluorescence, 2.11 with I color and no fluor., and 2.17 G color with strong fluor. All were SI1 or VS2 with ex-vg cut/polish/symmetry. With regard to size -- when we lined all three of them, face-up, there was a noticeable difference in size from the 2.04 and the 2.17, but not huge. When you took the 2.11 stone out, there wasn't a size difference in my opinion.
Through the process of elimination due to specs, we took the 2.11 off the table and narrowed it down to the 2.04 and the 2.17.
What was noticeable, was the color. My fiance had lasik surgery and was able to distinguish the color difference between the 2.17 (G color) and the 2.04 (I color), both with fluorescence. Although the 2.04 performed better, my fiance felt that the 2.17 was "whiter" than the 2.04.
It was pretty funny -- the lady showing us the three stones wanted to see how good he really was so she started to mix them up, and each time he was able to pick out the 2.17. She actually had to put the stone on the scale each time because she couldn't distinguish between them.
Anyway, due to the number of diamonds in my setting (104), we felt that it was best to go with the 2.17.
I honestly think that we could have gone down in size to a 1.70 or 1.80 BGD diamond w/no fluor., but we didn't travel down that route sadly.
Having said all that, my ring sparkles like crazy despite the strong blue fluor., (so don't let that scare you) and it has character with its kaleidescope of colors. I guarantee you that no matter which diamond you choose from BGD, it will be AMAZING!

I think you are wise to go with fluoro in an I color plus getting the larger size. I have a G with strong blue and it is very white. I see no difference between med and strong because both are going to glow in a night club with black lights. I never go anywhere that has them, so it is not an issue for me. Although I think it is rather cool as opposed to being negative!!!
 
I'm definitely going with a blue. There's definitely much more value and there's something about them that stands out. I'm in the stage of my life where most of my friends are getting married. I know that having a blue will have a sense of uniqueness and personality. I'm past the whole black light thing and have accepted it. Who knows, my girlfriend may love it. I would regret not going with a larger stone if I stuck with the smaller H&A

I'm very close to finalizing this as my stone. And it is the only one in my price range. So any input on this stone would be great.

I've also found a similar one with VS1 and very strong. It is about $500 but I'm not sure if it's worth it for better clarity and it does have a strong blue (which I'm still a bit hesitant in). It's a HCA 1.8. According to this, the I SI1 has better fire and scintillation. This one only has very good.

Which do you like better? How much strong is blue fluor than med fluor?
 
Any more input on these stones?

At the moment I think 1.232 I SI1 with med fluor is what I'm going for. It still somewhat fits my budget. If I start looking for more slightly expensive stones, not sure if it'll be good for the pocket.

I just need more reassurance that this is IT! And won't kick myself over by spending a little more on a potentially better stone.

I hope this is eye-clean or I may have to start looking again.
 
I think you are fine with the one you have chosen. Clarity is a personal preference thing and while I like VS1, it is not necessary for most people. I think you'll be very glad you went with a 1.2 ct.!
 
My parents were married in 1955. She always said her diamond was "blue". When I was a kid I thought that strange and as I got older she had forgotten why it was called "blue" She just thought it made it special.
 
Sounds good to me! Will be going for this (BGD Blue 1.232 I SI1 w/ MBF). Let's hope there's nothing wrong and or any easily visible inclusions.

I have a good feeling this would look very well on the Novela. Probably just the right size, not too big not too small. Seen several pics of this 'combo' and that helps a lot.

Blue it is! Hopefully I don't regret missing out on the H&A.
 
On a last note, especially those with a thinner width shank, what ring size should I go with?

GF tried a 6, while it fit, she didn't like how her hand looked like a sausage. Exact wording from her.

Tried a 6.5. It was a better fit since it was easier to put on and didn't "squeeze" her finger. The store didn't have a sizer for 6.25. So I'm not sure if that would be a better fit.

Please note, this was sized with regular width bands, since the Novela is thinner, I'm guessing I should lower the size.

I'm thinking 6 or 6.25. What do you think? Since this is coming from BGD, I would like to avoid having it resized.
 
How was the weather when the sizing was done? Hot or cold? The 6 is too small. What do you mean by regular width bands?
 
I understand what she meant. When I wear a 3.25, it fits, but my finger looks like a sausage! I wear 3.5 comfortably. I don't believe you should change the ring size based on the width of the ring. If I were you, I'd go with a 6.5.
 
Well, wider bands do usually need to be a little larger but regular can mean different things to different people.

The engagement ring SHOULD be a little loose in the winter because it will be tighter in the summer. And it will fit tighter once it is worn next to a wedding band.
 
I wear a 6.25. I don't think the width of the shank is going to affect fit until you get up to the 4-5mm plus range, so unless she was trying on very wide vands, I'd go ahead and use the rings she tried on as a guide.
 
She said that the 6.5 was just right. The weather was a bit cold that day but not winter weather, possibly 8 degrees Celsius. Her hands weren't cold at the time, room temperature during the evening.

I wasn't too exactly sure but I was told to get her ring sized for a 2mm band (which is the specs for the Novela). I'm not sure if thickness meant the length of the finger or actually width/thickness of the ring.

I know that the Novela is thin (length of the finger) and the sizer used what seemed at least 4mm (length of finger). Possibly similar to how men's wedding bands look if I recall.

I'm thinking of staying 6.5 or 6.25. Not too sure yet.

I've also put the stone on reserve, just waiting for Brian to inspect for any inclusions. I know it's an SI1 but I believe I should be fine since BGD screens what they bring in. Hopefully nothing is wrong with it but anything can happen.

I just have to stay away from the website now before I keep changing my mind and go crazy. Unless I see another stone that blows me away, this set up (1.232 BGD Blue I SI1 MBF on Novela setting) is looking to be it!
 
I would do the 6.5, also. If she ever says it is loose during the winter, tell her it will fit tighter in the summer and when she wears a wedding band with it. So it is best a little loose now so it won't be too tight later.

I think you have made great choices, and I also would hope that the stone is completely eyeclean. It is always important to ask, though! Good luck and please show us pictures when the ring is ready!!!

THIS!!! I know - with all the beautiful temptations out there, it is so hard to not rethink the process, but I believe you have purchased a GORGEOUS setting and stone and now, sit back, wait for the finished pics to arrive in your email and enjoy the excitement!! You really have chosen an amazing ring - but I know how you feel, doubt is such a pain in the a$$!!!

Enerchi - I hear you! It's going to be tough especially when they say they may be having more this week. I think this is the last week I'll check since I'll be paying it in full next weekend.

Good thing is that I'm looking for a somewhat stricter/more rare combination - so I don't think I'll find a comparable.
