I just want to share a recent find- a 30ct blue sheen moonstone mounted in silver. The stone measures 1.2 inches in length and I suspect this pin is antique in age.

It's not completely eye clean but it has very good transparency and strong blue adularescence to make up for it.

Any thoughts on the geographic origin of this stone?

These stones typically come from
Sri Lanka. Nice gem!!

Thanks!

I’ve just been on a moonstone research binge discovering some interesting facts and history, however for curiosities sake I’m finding it hard to locate any Sri Lankan blue sheen moonstones of comparable size (30+ carats). Does anyone have links to similar sized stones in antique jewellery or simply being sold loose?

Perhaps because of its size my stone is more likely to be labradorite rather than orthoclase? I can’t find any orthoclase of this same quality and size.

I’ve seen large moonstones, but they’re very included.

After more accurate measurements I suspect this stone is 24 carats in size, not 30 as previously stated. Hard to be accurate with a bezel mounted stone.

The sheen is still ta da…wonderful, as is the crystal clearness of the stone. I want her badly if you ever want to unload her…

Thanks, I’ve never seen a blue schiller moonstone of this size that’s as clear as glass before. It’s a shame it has some noticeable centipede inclusions but I don’t think they distract too much.
