ladies with nice finger nails-how do you do it?

Here are my nails!!! Oddity note: my middle finger on the RH does this weird hook once it gets to a certain length and it has been this way all my life. Weird...

I'll have to come back and view this pics in the winter, once the dry season of winter heat attacks my skin and nails and they revert back to splitting and breaking. ;(

I take my thyroid medicine. After the birth of my first child my nails began to split and peel. My cuticles were horrible and my hands always dry. I was also still loosing a significant amount of hair post partum. Had my thyroid checked and problems solved.

May I suggest to take BIOTIN? Great for your nails and for your hairs too!

Thanks for the compliment tuffy! My nails are good but my hair is atrocious: you win some, you lose some! :cheeky:

I honestly don't know! My nails are very strong and grow like crazy, but I don't particularly have a great diet (too much junk). I think a lot of it is genes + luck. I do take a daily vitamin, but I'm not sure if it does much. I would trade in my nice nails for flawless skin in a heart beat!

Ditto to this.

Oh, and do you know what else did wonders for my nails (at least the rate at which they grew)? Pregnancy. So try that. :)

When this thread originally started, I was inspired, but couldn't find Nailtiques, so I got a Hair, Skin, and Nail Vitamin instead. I took it (whenever I remembered to!) all summer long and my nails are longer and stronger for sure. They are splitting and breaking a lot less than before.

But after seeing those 'After' shots this week from people using Nailtiques, I made another trip to Walgreen's and found the Nailtiques! I aspire to have nails like you all.

I might have to try some of these tips, though I think a huge amount of it is genetics and not fussing with your nails too much. My DH has the thickest, strongest nails I've ever seen. If he ever accidentally pokes me with a fingernail or toenail, it's super painful. I'm a nail biter, and I am so jealous of him because he really, truly cannot bite his nails. He also has ridiculously shiny hair, and people ask him what products he uses, but he could use bar soap on his hair and it would still be shiny! So, yeah, genetics.

I have to second the recommendation for Nailtiques. Also, if you keep your nails covered in nail polish all the time (not Nailtiques), it's not good for them.

I agree with this! Before this thread, I truly had no idea that fingernail problems were such an issue for some women.

I used to be a nail biter up until 8th grade or so, then I finally stopped. Since then my nails have always been long and healthy, and they're painted all the time with either regular nail polish or gel polish (literally, I never leave the house without polish on my nails, even if it's just a couple coats of clear). They grow like weeds!

Here are my nails, a week after my most recent gel polish application.

I tend to keep them on the shorter side. Super long nails have no place in my line of work, but I still like to keep them nice and pretty.
