I don''t understand your response LF, would you mind please elaborating?

There are an awful lot of these lately, aren't there?

For me.. probably about $500 including wedding dresses. I'm wearing FMIL's dress, though, so I only have to deal with alterations - maybe that doesn't count

. If I lose or gain even five pounds my dress size and body shape change considerably so my wardrobe looks like it belongs to two or three different people at any given time!

I don''t spend a lot on clothes. So nothing to expensive in my closet. I have a few special vintage items from the 40s which might be worth something to collectors but thats about it.

My husband is more into labels and expensive clothing than me. So he beats me in that area. He and his brother like Ralph Lauren a lot.

My wedding dress, a San Patrick that retailed for $1600, but I got the sample for $900. Other than that, I think the rehearsal dinner dress I got was $220, but I''ve worn it 3 times in 5 months so it was money well spent!

You can always count on the same old crowd to get their knickers in a twist over - - darn near everything.

It was my comment on the way people live around here. I personally don''t give a hoot about what the rest of you do.

But if you feel it was a diatribe about you, then perhaps you need to examine why you took it so personally.

I''m outa here.

Sorry Holly. You don''t have any sort of effect on my D&G knickers.

Oh, ok. I guess in addition to my sense of humor growing at the same rate as my ass so has my sensitivity. These days I just don''t know how to take things. I do realize there''s a difference between

Easy, PinkAsscher-Holly gets to feel superior to all of the idiots like us who are willing to spend our hard-earned cash however we see fit! I don''t feel inferior, though-hopefully that doesn''t dampen her feelings of superiority. See, I pay cash for my clothes and bags, and I became a homeowner at age 27, so I think I''m doing just fine.

Not to mention the fact that no one on this thread ever mentioned only buying their dresses because of the designer-I''m not sure where that even came from. But I''ve stopped expecting Holly''s rants to actually make sense or be relevant-it''s easier that way.
left and right will never agree on anything.

Wedding dress was $300 from J.Crew. Currently I''ve got one $50 dress on sale from Chico''s in the closet. I''d totally rock out the designer duds if I had the money to do so.

My wedding dress. It was just around $550 CDN. Even that seemed like an awful lot to me, ha! Now it is jammed into my closet.

In second place would be one I bought a few years ago for a few formal events - around $200. I still have it but need to fix the zipper.

Holly- I honestly don't know how you think that coming into a thread where the question asked is "What is your most expensive dress?" and going on about how you don't do the designer clothing thing and how the wealthy people in your area do all these things with their money BESIDES spend it on clothes and not get some less-than-favorable responses. I suppose I (and perceivably, others) took your rambling of things to do with money besides buying expensive dresses as you looking down your nose at people who choose to spend their money other ways.

I own a lovely home (actually selling it due to relocation for a job), give to charities, get involved with my community (I am a troop leader for a bunch of 1st grade girls, the only non-mother troop leader in my area), intend on putting my future children through college, and take great vacations (went to the Cook Islands for two weeks last summer). DH and I are rabidly saving for retirement. Quite a feat considering I barely make an income because I am still a graduate student. Did it occur to you that it is possible to do all of these things and still have designer clothing (full priced or discounted) if one chooses to own that sort of thing?

I try not to read your posts with the intent of being oversensitive or getting my non-name-brand knickers in a twist but it is hard not to have a reaction when even the first two words of your post are dripping in sarcasm and judgment. "Designer? Please." is a virtual eye roll. I know you are smart enough to know exactly what you were doing when you wrote those words.

In case you missed it, many of the people who have responded to the actual question posed by DancingFire with examples of how they have managed to score great deals (that's responsible, no?) on designer dresses. I would venture to guess that most of the women here are more proud of the deals they get than the name on the label of their gown.

Ditto, C-tek...especially the bold part.

Enough everyone. Please stop the personal attacks on all sides.

I think we need to start some "Whats the least expensive ____ you own?" I could kick butt in those threads. Bargain shopper to the core!

I''m not sure. My wedding dress was around $150. A dress I wore to prom and a couple of college formal events was around $130 I think.
