Does anyone remember about.com? They had a pregnancy message board. It was very active. I met a group of ladies with September 2003 due dates (when my oldest was born). We eventually migrated to Delphi.com and became close friends through the years. Experiencing more births, major milestones, medical scares, and even two deaths of children. We are planning a big get together in New Orleans in September.... there will probably be 20 of us there! We’ve rented a mansion in the garden district. People are flying in from all over the county.

Now, I’ve been to New Orleans probably 12 times. Always at Mardi Gras (in my 20s), or at a professional convention, or at a wedding. I’ve not been there as an older adult with any spare time.

Where to eat with such a large group? Is the riverboat your worth it? Where to shop for antique jewelry? :wavey: We will probably split off into smaller groups due to interests and budget. I thought I’d pick your brains! I got a lot of good help with San Fran and Montreal here this year!

Fun! I belong to a 1997 group like that! We still have a Facebook group; We met once in Nashville.

I would say go have drinks on the porch of the Columns hotel.

The WWII museum is excellent (if a bit sobering). Give at least 4 hours for that. The zoo, the aquarium, the botanic gardens are all well done.

The riverboat is ok. It will still be ridiculously hot in September though.

Go for a tour of Longvue House and Gardens. https://longuevue.com/

And do be super careful in the garden district. Nothing good happens in New Orleans after midnight, ok? Upper or lower garden district, do you know?

Lower Garden District—on Felicity.

Several people do want to visit the WW II Museum— someone is contacting them about a group rate/docent. We will do a lot of wandering and will probably end up at the house just chattering away at night after dinner. I love the idea of the garden tour you linked.

Also! Three women are coming from Canada. They, and others who have not experienced open alcohol in city streets, are excited and amazed, lol.

Probably ok, but be aware of surroundings, etc, situational awareness at all times. Keep all house and car doors locked at all times, etc.

Well, we may have to keep in touch lol. I’ve been wanting to tour Longvue myself...lol. Keep putting it off.

Restaurants— I mean so many to choose from! Stay away from chains. Local restaurants are all so good.

As for antique jewelry, IDK. Maybe Royal Antiques in the French Quarter?

If you go to the New Orleans Museum of Art, you could see that and city park. The streetcar goes there now. You can get beignets in city park and rent paddle boats or canoes, etc. or just walk around.

You can rent kayaks and cruise down Bayou St, John (again, might be too hot)

DH and I once did a vampire walking tour of the French quarter at night. That was fun.

I’d there are any Catholics in the group, the Father Seelos shrine is in New Orleans. http://www.seelos.org/

See if any plays are at the Saenger Theater. See if the symphony is playing. That was amazing—I went about 2 years ago and loved it much more than I anticipated.

My BIL and SIL got engaged at Mardi Gras world.

Have a drink at the Blue Room at the Roosevelt Hotel. Go see the hotel anyway... very ornate.

Get a sazerac there too.

Magazine street for shopping and lunch.

If it is a weekend with a saints game, come tailgate with us across from the Superdome!!

I’ll think of more later.

Oh! Afternoon tea at Windsor Court.

Lol, DH and I have thought of more...

rock n bowl
Howling wolf for music or Tipitinas

You could do an entire week of church tours.

My daughter loves the escape room on Canal Street. My husband enjoyed that too.

Oh, my goodness!! Keep these ideas coming! I love it! Our big hurdle to overcome is the size of the group. There are some that are into vampires and the haunted tours, others that are homebodies and just want to get together. It’s a crazy mix of us. :) And I’m the only one that’s into jewels, lol!

Oh! And my family (that I’m leaving at home) and I think that Lafayette is the biggest badass, and I need to look up his monuments down there!

Yeah, lol, tell me when to stop and maybe others can chime in lol.

I got to see Primus and Tool in New Orleans a couple years back!

I dream about the sandwiches at cochon butcher and the sliders in the garden district Slders doughnuts and brews.

Muffulettas and beignets! (Not together of course :confused2:)

I went to cochon butcher 3x for muffulettas:oops: (this type of shame, @Dancing Fire is why I do not post my face.)

I must admit, I am a little frightened of Cochon’s menu. It is one of Dh’s favorite places to eat, but that boy will eat anything.

I have not had the opportunity to go to the butchery. I’ll bet that muffelatta was delicious. To me, central grocery is the one and only and I will not stray. DH’s great great somebody or other (grandpa or uncle) started central grocery. (As an aside. Dh’s grandfather was Hispanic and he married a woman from Sicily lol— her side were Italian grocers in New Orleans. Her maiden name was Lupo).

I was just there for a business conference and our group went to two great restaurants... NOLA is owned by Emeril and while I find many celebrity establishments to be overrated, it was quite good. Another is Cafe Amelie. Great ambiance and fantastic food. Best shrimp and grits of all the places we went to - and we tried them all. :lickout::lol: Both should be able to accommodate your group.

The one place you have to go check out is Laura’s candies.... the pralines are TDF! There’s one location on Chartres St and another near Cafe Du Monde.

@whitewave - I’m not too happy about the forecast for our trip, but I suppose it could be worse! The trip is the 20th through the 24th (flying out that morning).

Oh, man. I hope that disturbance near the yucutan passes before you get there!
