I am having a hard time understanding lab grown diamonds or better the price. I looked on http://www.diamondnexus.com/valencia-princess-2.html and this ring is on sale for $1400 now I look at ebay at the following ring which has more weight to it and it is selling for 169.00. For that matter all the lab grown rings are only going for a few hundred dollars. Why is that. I contacted the ebay seller and he says its 100% lab grown just like the one from Diamond Nexus. Why is there such a price gap?

Quote from the Nexus page:

True Grown Diamonds are, in every way, diamonds. Diamonds have been man made for decades, but it’s only been recently that technology has advanced to grow them to a size appropriate for fine jewelry. Because they are identical to mined diamonds, they also have flaws and are graded and certified by the same standards of mined diamonds. Pure Grown Diamonds cost 30 to 50 percent less than their mined counterpart.

All of the rings you see on our website are shown with Nexus Diamonds; upon request, we can substitute True Grown Diamonds in any setting and reestimate costs. Or, our sister company, 1215 Diamonds, features exclusively True Grown Diamonds in their ring collections.

Looks like nexus diamonds are marketing piffle.

Stay away.

Diamond Nexus is a criminal scam. These are cubic zirconias. A fair price for a CZ ranges from about $1 for a el cheapo to $10 for an ordinary, about $100 for a hand cut, and about $500 for hand cut and coated with shiny clear stuff.

After a few unfortunate incidents with judges and courtrooms, Diamond Nexus started selling actual lab diamonds but used ambiguous language when referring to their stones. "Nexus Diamonds" are cubic zirconias. "True Grown Diamonds" are lab diamonds. It's not accident that you are confused.

As both these dealers are lying about their CZ being diamonds, I would assume they are also selling el cheapo. The guys with the hand cut CZ are quite proud of what they have.

Unfortunately the majority of stones being represented as lab diamonds are cubic zirconias. The price gaps are because they are testing your misconceptions about how much a lab diamond will cost vs. your budget. The fair price is $1 to $10 plus the setting.
