LA jeweler recommendations for unmounting a delicate OEC

Looking for LA jeweler advice!

It looks like my OEC has found a new home (yay!). I have agreed to get the stone certed however, before moving forward, so I need to unmount it from its 6-prong gold pendant setting.

My normal trusted jeweler for this kind of work is on a long hiatus due to family issues, so I'm looking for recommendations for a good jeweler who can be trusted with older stones. The girdle is thin and crispy, so I want to make sure I work with someone trustworthy. I live on the Westside, but anywhere in the LA area is fine. My normal local jeweler is downtown.

Thank you for the help :)

How about DK? He’s in LA (though I’m not familiar enough with LA to know where specifically).

And it better be a PSer who purchased it... I want to see it in it's new home!

Ditto! I was giving this some SERIOUS consideration and thought about back-burnering my asscher hunt, so I’m glad someone is moving forward with adopting this gorgeous diamond!

Of course DK is an option. I just wasn't sure of they did regular jewelry work in addition to custom jewelry. Haha.

As far as I know he does :-)

I can recommend a jeweler in Thousand Oaks, but I think DK will be closer to you, and thanks to PS, you will have many more recommendations for him.

Haha. She may be a lurker and not a member, not sure! But she said she saw the stone at 1 am and it kept her up all night. So definitely of our ilk! I can drop a word in for project postings ;)2

Well.... if this falls through, you will be the first to know! And she will be freshly graded. But I also would never want to upstage a good asscher :)

Also, officially set up to visit DK on Friday :sun: I realized I probably walked past his shop near Pershing Square a million times without even noticing!

He's right on the first floor, first shop on your right. Definetly think DKs the right guy for the job, he actually deals with antique rings and stones frequently.

Just wanted to give a shoutout to DK. Not that he needs any more of them here, BUT at the buyer's request we decided to do a repolish of the girdle to make it more stable for wear. Ended up having DK facet the girdle, and the results are incredible!!!! Makes it even harder to let go of this baby. Stability, more fire, and even went up at least half a color grade.

A worthy sacrifice for a loss of only 0.07cts. 10/10, would recommend (if you are looking to fix up a girdle that is).

Another shoutout to DK. He has sized fully engraved bands with Milgrain and re-added the engraving and you cannot tell at all!

@elliefire99 would love a pic! ;)

I'm not sure the before and after photos really do the difference justice buuutttt..... for what it's worth...

Before with crispy girdle:

After! :

*Note that both the loupe photos were taken to show a chip that I specifically asked DK to not try to remove.

You can't see all the new life she got, but it's truly amazing!
