Kitten getting spayed, advice needed

@siamese3 I am so sorry about Max. :(

Please know you never have to apologize for worrying over your furry babies. They are our children. Just because they aren't human doesn't mean they are not the loves of our lives and our babies. I am still broken hearted over losing Francesca and Fred. And I probably always will be. Someone said to me that means we had a connection. Darn right. They were/are my children and I will always love and miss them. My heart still aches. They each have a piece of my heart yet somehow the heart always expands to love more. There is no limit.

((((Hugs)))).

Thank you, Missy.. I am sorry about your Francesca and Fred it's truly hard. The bond with each animal is different and some are just incredibly special. I think you get what you need, at the time you need it. I love Dash, but I seem to have a very special bond with Mia. I was drawn to her from the get go. I think we can learn lessons from the animals in our lives and that's pretty cool. The unconditional love can't be certainly can't be beat.

Your cats are GORGEOUS! How is the little girlie doing now?

I know i'm late to the party, but i wanted to let you know what happened when my girls were spayed. They were done early on the same morning, came home at 2pm, were a little dozy & groggy, so slept for a few hours. By 10pm, much to my horror, they were chasing each other up & down the stairs, attacking each other through the bannisters & generally being the lovable, destructive little sh!ts they had always been!

They rested when they needed to & licked their incisions, but there were no cones of shame or drama. I kept them together, as they had never been apart & I think that would have stressed them out. Honestly, you wouldn't have known anything had been done to them at all by the next morning

Here are my fur babies helping me wash up, who just turned 6.

Wow! That is amazing! They are darling!! How old were they when they were spayed? Mia is doing better every day, although I thought she would bounce back quicker than she has. They are 6 months old and I would have liked to do it earlier, but the vet was so backed up. It actually annoyed me because I wanted to set up spay surgery when I first brought them in and I was told that we could easily set it up at there next visit in two weeks and then, at that visit, they said, oh sheesh, we are so backed up.. it will be m2 months, at least...ugh..the hardest part is definitely keeping Dash from wanting to play and wrestle with her..I think I will take the suit off her tomorrow, but as the vet tech said, the suit kind of keeps her from running around like a maniac and I think that might be good for her healing ‍♀️ I hope that she and Dash leave her incision alone. Boys are so easy!! :)

Glad to hear she's doing well. I love cats - we had 5 when i was growing up, ranging from an abandoned kitten from the farm down the lane to a pedigree Abyssinian. My parents used to joke that with all the cats & 4 kids running around, life felt pretty feral

She'll recover at her own pace. As long as she's spritely, eating & playing, then she's doing great.

Both our kitties were found abandoned on the farm across the field from here, from 2 different mothers, within 5 days of each other. The black, Poppy, was from an outdoor ratter & boy is it genetic. Let's just say that as parents, all we need to do is provide her with fresh water & clean up the blood. Sparky's mother is a pedigree Lilac Point Birman, and Sparky is the most beautiful cat i have ever seen. Her eyes are lilac blue. Because they were abandoned & the farmers wife had to hand rear them, as soon as they were independently feeding at 7 weeks old, we brought them home. I don't think they've cottoned on that they're not real sisters ;)2

We had them spayed at 4 months & it couldn't come soon enough. We had to keep the cat flaps locked until they'd had all their jabs & their operations, so they trashed the house. Literally. Shredded wallpaper everywhere & we had to fully redecorate. Thankfully since having the freedom to go out or stay in, they've stopped destroying things!

This is an old picture from when they were around 3 months, still small enough to cuddle together on my knee, and shows Sparky's amazing eyes :kiss2: Her sable colour has developed & deepened as she's grown.

Omg!! Those little faces! I love cats, too! We took Mia's little onesie off this morning and she took a thirty minute bath followed by complete madness and mayhem, lol..apparently the onesie is like a straight jacket..ack! Her incision looks good and she seems unconcerned with it, so hopefully we are on our way back to normal kitten chaos.. thanks so much for your input and replies..

Great news!

This is fab news! I'm so pleased everything has been smooth & she's back to her playing & kitty madness!

No advice, but I just wanted to say I am glad your kitty is doing better and tell you how gorgeous your kitties are!

Thank you so much! Both of them are actually kind of maniacs today, so I guess we are back to normal

Your girl, Mia looks like our beloved bogart. We had him for 18 1/2 blessed years. Enjoy her.

OMG.
Why would anyone spray their kitten?

Shame on you.
:naughty:

That sounds really mean.

Glad she is doing good

For health reasons Kenny. Good on her for doing the responsible thing.

Here are some of the medical benefits:

  • Your female pet will live a longer, healthier life. Spaying helps prevent uterine infections and breast tumors, which are malignant or cancerous in about 50 percent of dogs and 90 percent of cats. Spaying your pet before her first heat offers the best protection from these diseases.
  • Neutering your male companion prevents testicular cancer and some prostate problems.
And behavioral benefits:

  • Your spayed female pet won't go into heat. While cycles can vary, female felines usually go into heat four to five days every three weeks during breeding season. In an effort to advertise for mates, they'll yowl and urinate more frequently—sometimes all over the house!
  • Your male dog will be less likely to roam away from home. An intact male will do just about anything to find a mate, including finding creative ways escape from the house. Once he's free to roam, he risks injury in traffic and fights with other male animals.
  • Your neutered male may be better behaved. Unneutered dogs and cats are more likely to mark their territory by spraying strong-smelling urine all over the house. Your dog might be less likely to mount other dogs, people and inanimate objects after he’s neutered. Some aggression problems may be avoided by early neutering.”

@missy I believe Kenny is joking by using the word "spray" as opposed to "spay".

Lol thanks chrono. I’ll leave it up as a PSA for those who might not know.
Please everyone spay and neuter your animals.
❤️

ETA @kenny sometimes you gotta spray them. For example Oliver is a misbehaving little stinker at times attacking Tommy. Out comes the water spray. Gotta do what we gotta do. :)

Kenny, odd, but I did think of this, in that we wouldn't want to do this to a human without their consent. I actually think it's kind of crazy how we keep them captive in our house and they have no "choice" in the matter. The older I get, the weirder I think humans are I can't refer to my cats as pets, because I also think that's weird. They are just lovely little being we share our home with and I like to think we take really good care of them.

Thank you Missy, for posting all of that!

LOL, I never even noticed the spelling although I have been known to get the spray bottle out as a gentle deterrent. Not ,so much with these guys, but I had an ultra stubborn seal point that was pretty much in charge of the house. I once had someone ask why I "let him" do things he wasn't supposed to do..‍♀️♀️

hehehe.. I never noticed the spelling and I agree, sometimes spraying those little mischievous stinkers is what is called for. :P2
