Today this exceptional stone arrived in my mailbox. Kornerupine. It is pleochroic, this one shows green and blue. The color has the remarkable quality one might expect if a tsavorite and a vanadium chrysoberyl had a baby.

Beautiful stone, VP and a great description of this would-be love child. ;-)

Any setting ideas come to mind?

I should add the vendor photo which is very right on except that outside the thing explodes with brightness and color.
As for setting... Kornerupine is I think 6.5 hardness so right about par with amethyst. Kornerupine is quite rare and commonly a brown grey like some camouflage, but sometimes display these amazing greens and blues.
also anything over 1/2 carat cut is quite large. This one is .83 carat. Now if only they could change the name to something more pronounceable that rolls off the tongue, something like "Vapidite" sounds good to me.

I think this is the first kornerupine someone has purchased on PS in CS. I think they are a 6 or a 7 in hardness, so suitable for jewelry with care.

Very nice stone!

Your little love child is a beauty, VL. Cut too. What a neat find. Whatever you do with it, it's gonna be stunning!

P.S. Nice asters too! I have a huge bed of the same in my garden.

Very nice - they are extremely hard to find in that colour. Most are a grey - brown colour.

What a fun, Fun, FUN stone with nice colours! Having it unset in the grass where it's almost the exact shade of the grass had my heart beating a mile a minute in fear though.
