Today this exceptional stone arrived in my mailbox. Kornerupine. It is pleochroic, this one shows green and blue. The color has the remarkable quality one might expect if a tsavorite and a vanadium chrysoberyl had a baby.
I should add the vendor photo which is very right on except that outside the thing explodes with brightness and color.
As for setting... Kornerupine is I think 6.5 hardness so right about par with amethyst. Kornerupine is quite rare and commonly a brown grey like some camouflage, but sometimes display these amazing greens and blues.
also anything over 1/2 carat cut is quite large. This one is .83 carat. Now if only they could change the name to something more pronounceable that rolls off the tongue, something like "Vapidite" sounds good to me.
oo I was looking at this on his site only yesterday! It's just gorgeous: great to see those outdoor pictures - great greens. Congratulations! I can't wait to see what you do with it.
It's very pretty! I have one I bought from Litnon long ago, think there are some pics somwhere, yours has a wonderful color! I hope you will enjoy, they are bright stones!
What a fun, Fun, FUN stone with nice colours! Having it unset in the grass where it's almost the exact shade of the grass had my heart beating a mile a minute in fear though.
