My DH is thinking of getting me some 1 carat "K" SI-1 RB studs. He wants to get them through a jeweler friend who is selling them for $3200. I like the carat size, at least I''ve tried on costume earrings that size and they look good.

Of course I''ll try them on before buying. I don''t have any way of checking the angles - I thought I''d see how much light they throw out when on.

If my E ring is H in color, is the K color getting too warm?

Seems like a good price?

You mean, 1 carat / earring... right ?

Edited to add: Of course I have not seen the stones or anything. Just trying to guess what would make a good deal for the seller at that price.

Well, for 2 cts tcw, K-L/I1 is my guess at this point. And not great cut either.

It wasn't even the price that makes me so skeptical - but the thought that the jeweler would not call 'K-SI' some stones that do not show any tint or inclusions readily; those may get 'names' in the near colorless and VS region whether deserved or not

After all, the usual thing is to use these labels according to the buyer's expectations.

If he got you to consider some tint, some inclusions and near-train-smash cut... for a 'bargain', too bad other options never made it on the table.

If they are 1 carat total - it is really easy to get higher grades and a great cut for the money. Easy enough.

Is it one carat total weight? Or are the 1 carat each?

Ctw would really help determine whether the price is good.

Also I LOVE the dog in your avatar..what kind is it?

My studs are 2.2 ct weight total, one is J and one is K color. They are very very white. As a matter of fact, they look as white (if not whiter... ) than my I colored oval engagement ring. So no, assuming the stones are well cut, I don't think they would be too warm at all with your e-ring.

(Don't know anything about the price though... )

Thanks for the feedback. They are 2 TCW - each stone is 1 carat.

My E ring is insured, but my husband does not want to pay more for insurance. So that is why we''re considering these. The price seems good.

I''d go smaller but I wear my dark hair down and smaller stones don''t even sho.

My studs are about a half carat each, both H&A, ideal cut. One is J and one is K... and without getting out the loupe and reading the laser inscription I can''t tell which is which! They are both GORGEOUS - and VERY white. I say, fear not!

If the cut is good K should be perfect. Luckily you get to try them on before you commit - then you can decide.

I don''t think that with all the sparkle flashing around that you will even notice the colour difference in your stones!

Just to let you guys know, I checked out the earrings yesterday. Oddly enough, when the studs were in my ears I couldn''t see a big color difference between the K and my H with fluorescence E ring. But when held side by side, the color was substantial.

We decided not to get them because in the end even though not viewed side by side, the color difference would bug me. I even wondering if the color wasn''t truly a K; maybe lower.

Oh well, will keep trying...
