I've been researching diamonds the past few months before joining PS. Last week we stopped in a jewelry store, so I could try on some rings. Before ever researching diamond prices I always said I wanted a 2 carat until I saw what that actually costs. In my mind bigger is better (without compromising on the cut of course). I tried on a pear, round, and oval before deciding on the oval. I asked for a 1.2 oval ideal/excellent cut J colored SI1 or higher hoping she might be able to find one a little bigger. She brings out a 1.5 oval- she says before I tell you the color or clarity just look at it and tell me if you like it. I pick it up and examine the diamond. I see a hint of yellow from the sides, but no visible inclusions. I tell her I see a little yellow and she says just a tint, so I look some more and I tell her I'm going to guess this is a K colored oval. "You're good" she says. She told me that the strong blue flor helped the diamond look whiter.
I liked the diamond a lot and I didn't think I would be able to get a 1.5 In my boyfriends price range. Under the loupe I could see a slight bow tie and some of the twinning wisps. Given the location of the shop I wasn't able to take the diamond outside or view it in natural lighting. I would love to get other people's opinions on SI2 clarity and the strong blue flor. *Note my setting would be in rose gold and this would be my forever ring as I'm too sentimental to ever trade it in for something else.

Can you post the GIA number for the stone?

I'm worried that if I post the Gia number someone else might like it and buy it . I posted a picture of the plot. The comments on the report read additional twinning wisps, pinpoints, and surface graining not shown.

I wanted to see depth/size etc. Can you cover the GIA number?

Oh ok

HI:

What gorgeous hands and nails!!! No help with the diamond lol

cheers--Sharon

I just wanted to make sure it wasnt too deep and was facing up an appropriate size for the carat weight which it is.

Rose gold with a "K" should be good. Make sure you look at it in all different kinds of lighting (make sure you are OK with the tint) before buying.

I'll post some nice looking* pears so you have something to compare it with. (ignore color/clarity/size...just look at faceting pattern as the stone turns)

Keep in mind fluor only helps reduce yellowish body color if the light source has enough ultraviolet in it to activate the fluor.
Sunlight does.
Typical indoor lighting doesn't, unless you live and work under a blacklight.

Next the fluor must be blue, and not yellow or orange.
Fluor comes in many colors, though blue is the most common.
In your case the fluor is blue.
But lots of people read PS and IMO it's important to mention flour must be blue if it's to help a diamond with lower color grade look less-yellow when outside in the sun.

If this is left unsaid someone is going to buy an N diamond with fluor that's yellow, and wonder why it turns even more yellowish in sunlight.

Kenny is correct. No difference in most indoor lightings. The RB is nil and the Octavia is VSB.

DF, can I have your Octavia? :Up_to_something:

Is this for real or are you just pullin' our leg DF???

I think he's bluffing.
After considering the price of such a new diamond, and what we get for a used diamond, add a few thou for a new setting, a 2.38 to 2.75 upgrade doesn't make sense.

DF, upgrade to 5 ct.
Now THAT'S an upgrade!
Everywhere you go you'll have two beautiful PS ladies hanging on each arm, gazing adoringly into your eyes, that is if they were not blinded by your 5 ct. Octavia!

I wanted to but unlikely to happen. Don't wanna hijack this thread.

I can’t tell much from that one picture. Just spend time looking at it and see if they’ll take it into natural light for you to see better. If this is going to be a forever stone, you must be happy with the cut, color, and clarity aside from the size. Sometimes low clarity in combination with strong fluorescence can make a stone look hazy in some lighting, so be careful.
