I have been searching non stop for diamonds and settings for months. My first post was about a month ago concerning an e- ring I have been contemplating purchasing from Helzberg Diamonds. However, despite how beautiful I think the ring is, I believe I can find one that I am 100% happy with. What is unsettling about the Helzberg ring is that it is an 1.40, G color, I1 clarity (cushion) for $8,999 (not including sales tax and warranty).

I went to ERD--taking advise from several of you, and I fell in love with the Jessica 2 (I like the Jessica as well, but I cannot seem to locate any actual photos of the ring). I also found a 2.03 cushion modified brilliant diamond. From the stats and GIA report--the diamond looks beautiful--BUT its a K. I have seen some beautiful Ks on here, but never a K cushion. My worry is that the warm yellow undertones will perhaps distract from the beauty of the overall ring. Any opinions about this???

THANKS!!!

Hello,

I cannot comment on a K cushion, because I have never seen one in person. Both my fiance and I have seen a RB K color Ideal cut diamond in person (around 1.7 carat) and the body color is quite noticeable to us. Face up we could see a slight hint of color, but when viewing at angles and especially from the site, there was a noticeable hint of yellow.

From what I''ve read on this forum, RB is the best at "hiding" the body color of the stone because of it''s brilliance face-up. The thing to remember is you will not always be viewing the diamond face-up and depending on the setting, you may see the side of the stone quite a lot.

From my experience, we decided to go no lower than I color for RB Ideal cut stones.

Hope this helps.

I am a real fan of lower colored stones (as long as they are well-cut)... but that being said, I have never seen a 2c K-colored cushion IRL. Methinks it could be BEAUTIFUL, though! Perhaps the tint is creamy/winter white color rather than *yellow*, and if that''s the case, oh, wouldn''t it be lovely, particularly perhaps in a vintage-type setting?!

MHO: your best bet is to explain your concerns to Mark and ask him to eyeball it for you, or (better yet!) just order it and see for yourself. It''s always returnable if you don''t love it. But my guess? Mmmmmm, I''ll bet it''s EXQUISITE!!!

I am new here and although I haven''t posted my ring yet I just wanted to reply to this post. I just bought a cushion that is slightly bigger ( 2.05) than the one you are thinking of but it''s an L with faint flurorescence. I wanted a larger stone but for a smaller price tag. I also happen to like the yellower stones. In fact I wanted a light yellow stone. My stone is definitely more yellow and you can really see it especially in sunlight. Inside it appears white but outside it isn''t. I love it! I think it looks like champagne in some lights. It''s so sparkly! I think with that K you need to see it first before you make a decision. If you can, see it in person as it can be difficult to judge color from a computer screen. Luckily, in my case, I was pleasantly surprised with the color but if I was expecting something white I wouldn''t have been happy.

Also consider what type of band you will wear with it. I have a 2.75 eternity band and the diamonds are G-H colored. They are a big contrast with my ering so I have been wearing just a simple band with my ering. That makes it appear a little whiter.

Once I figure out how to do it, I will post my ring. Hope that helps.

Oh that would be awesome if I could see your ring!--Thanks so much!

I''ve seen some gorgeous antique cushion rings that were warm colored and I think it looks fabulous. If you''re going for that look, the tint should be obvious (such as M-N colored stones). But you''ve got to be careful of the particular shade of "warm" (I like stones that looks like champagne, not gray or dingy) and the setting style you put it in (antique). And like already mentioned, you need to consider how other diamonds on the setting or wedding band will look next to a warm cushion. There are some great examples on the Fay Cullen website.

Another thing to consider if you''re not sure about the K color is to go with a smaller stone of higher color. The helzberg stone was smaller and I1, now your looking at much higher carat but very low color. I think you''ll be able to find a size somewhere between the two with an acceptable clarity and color. I''m just glad you came here and started your research before deciding where and what to buy.

Any warmth would add to the beauty to me, but it is up to how you feel that counts. Did you actually see this diamond at ERD?

I am the proud owner of a 1.25 K RB, thread with pics here https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/its-finally-finished-thankyou-gog-and-wf.89109/page-3
I cannot believe how amazingly white my K is, from all angles and all lighting.

However, I have read that cushions could show more colour than rounds, plus this is a large size.

If you want a whiter stone, perhaps try for one with med or strong fluor? Mine has medium, and I believe thats what is helping the colour to a degree.
However, if you are comfortable with a stone that will look slightly warm and not icey white, than go for it. I personally prefer some warmth, it seems to add more personality to the stone, if that makes sense

I think with the vintagey look of a cushion and the right setting, it''ll look fab!

Ha, lol I''ve just read back and my post is all about what I think - of course, please follow your heart and decide if you will truely love it.

I have been looking to upgrade with a K and have seen many beautiful ones. I would not be afraid of a K. There are many beautiful ones in the show me the ring section. I have heard RB''s show color less and that''s what I have been looking at. Good luck!

I may catch flack for this but ... I don't think a "K" is a good choice for a surprise GIFT. Simply because people have such varying perceptions of warmth & wildly different attitudes about it. If you're a gal (or guy) picking out an engagement ring for *yourself* to wear ... let your eyes be the judge. But if you are selecting for someone *else* to wear (and they have no input) ... "K" ... not safe or considerate. JHMO

Deco, I''m not gonna throw you flak, but I do kinda disagree. I see your point about a surprise and people''s perception of "lower colours", and how K may not seem very romantic. I guess it depends on the individual and their priorities.

But IRL, seriously how often are we asked what colour our diamond is? As long as it looks white and sparkly, thats as far as about 95% of the population go with their perception - oh and of course size. I have had my original ering for 3yrs, and have never once been asked the colour.
I''m now the happy owner of a 1.25 K that is whiter than most G''s I see in high-retail stores. I do not anticipate anyone asking the colour, except maybe somebody "in the trade", to which I will be proud to tell them its a K, because I don''t think many will believe me!

I think J/K colour is a great trade off for couples on budgets to gain the size/stone/setting etc that they want without any *real* compromise. Unless of course the intended has shown a propensity for icey icey white and have verbalised not liking warmer stones, I say consider them for sure.

Disclaimer: based of course on stones cut to top proportions, certified by GIA/AGS and from trusted vendors.

Here is a photo of the 2.03 K Cushion I have been considering...

I am definitely not opposed to warm tones--the diamond is just one aspect of the total package. With the right setting--I do not see why a K cushion could not be beautiful. This has been such a difficult decision. I love cushions, but I have also been looking at 1.5 rounds just to keep my options open...you may just see quite of few more posts from me asking for opinions and expertise...

Thanks to all those who have offered their opinions

and thanks to arjunajane for pictures of your beautiful K
