Wow! Who will be our next Supreme Court judge?

One of the most conservative of the US Supreme Court's nine judges will be replaced by a liberal! :appl:

Let the media frenzy-circus begin!

Oh, and RIP!

Of course the right will bend over backwards to try to prevent Obama from appointing a judge in the next 11 months.
It will also whip this already bizarre presidential election into an even-greater frenzy.

Uh...you called it first, kenny. But this is actually laughable. It's unconstitutional! Do those "conservative" (for want of a more acceptable adjective to use on Pricescope) bozos not realize that everyone can see through them?

AGBF

"Mitch McConnell Says the Next President Should Appoint Antonin Scalia’s Successor

Senator Mitch McConnell, Republican of Kentucky and the Senate majority leader, backing the sentiments of Senator Ted Cruz of Texas, said in a statement that the next president, not President Obama, should appoint a successor to Justice Antonin Scalia."

Liberals will take over the world!.

I'm so outraged that they would even consider holding off appointment until the election.

I would be embarrassed to run as a GOP while his (because they are all men running now) party refuses to do their f*ing job.

Of course they paint it like theyre being patriotic. Your patriotism tastes a lot like sour grapes.

I love that they think that it should wait and it's their constitutional right to make it wait til the next president is appointed. Nope. It's his job to do the appointment so suck it up buttercups!

But I follow this chick on FB and Twitter and she makes me laugh maniacally.

What I find appealing is a man died. A man who served our country as a Supreme Court Justice. He's not even cold yet and the media and politics have taken over. My condolences to his family. I care out who replaces him, but I will care later. Right now I was just say a quiet prayer for his family.

Not posting is quiet.
Posting is saying something.

Since there are no gods I have posted a respectful thought ... RIP.

Both are equally allowed on PS, and morally equivalent.

Quiet, Shmiet!

Last time I checked I could be a Christian and a member. I didn't say you had to pray Kenny. I said "I said a quiet prayer for his family". You can show respect (or lack of respect any way you want) and I'll show mine anyway I choose, without being bullied by you!

Prez Obama is hoping that Justice Ginsburg would retire before he leaves office so that he can appoint another liberal judge to the Supreme Court.

Maybe we can finally drag America out of the dark ages with SC judges that are even more liberal!

There's actually nothing in the Constitution that requires the Senate to take a vote within X number of days after a President's nomination which requires the Senate's approval before appointment.
If the "advise and consent" motion doesn't make it to the Senate floor for a vote before December 31, it won't be the first time the Senate did not act on a "lame duck" President's Supreme Court nominee. That happened back in 1845 when President Tyler nominated Philadelphia lawyer John Read; the Senate declined to act on Read's nomination before President Tyler's term expired 10 months later.

Last, but far from least, the Republicans outnumber the Democrats in the Senate 54-44 (Senators King and Sanders were elected as independents). So the current reality is that the President's nominee, no matter who that may be, has zero chance of being approved.

Surprise Surprise. A few folks are not just praying quietly.

The body's not even cold ...

It took only a few minutes after news broke of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia's death on Saturday for conservatives to demand that Senate Republicans block any replacement nominated by President Barack Obama.

It took just a little while more for Republican leadership to agree with them.

In a swift statement designed to warn Barack Obama against even nominating a replacement, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) pledged to sit on his hands for the remaining 11 months of the president's term.

"The American people should have a voice in the selection of their next Supreme Court Justice," the statement read. "Therefore, this vacancy should not be filled until we have a new President."

McConnell's reaction makes it incredibly hard to envision Obama filling the Supreme Court vacancy created by Scalia's death. The majority leader has large control the floor of the Senate. And on this front, he is being cheered on by the conservative faction of his party.

Mere minutes after the Scalia news broke, Conn Carroll, a spokesman for Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah), who sits on the Judiciary Committee -- through which any Supreme Court nominee must go -- placed the chances of a replacement at nil.

Pathetic.

Thank god an elected official will choose a judge, not that Obama. Now let me see if I can't roll my eyes back from hell

Hey McConnell ... Dude! ... didn't you take a class in high school that mentioned the sitting US president selects the nominees for SC justices during her/his entire 4-yr term ... not just during the first 3. :wall: :wall: :wall:

Posting other views is not bullying.

Assuming everyone goes along with religions (by posting about so-call praying) is.

Religions have been bullying American far too long, even in how it has creeped into our language.

I could not agree more! It is disgusting ... like a bunch of vultures circling his body within hours of his passing.

The president noted tonight it was his constitutional duty to nominate a replacement, and he intends to do so. I hope the Senate performs its constitutional duty as well and respective of their constituents' values who voted them to their seats.

There were around 350 bills IIRC that Congress passed to a Dem-led Senate during this administration that got shoved in a drawer by Harry Reid. Where was all this hemming and hawing about Senate duties then?

It was like the Allstate commercial - SILENCE! :hand:

So, YES - I hope the Sen. Judiciary Committee does the same thing with Obama's next SCOTUS nominee and delays/rejects him/her. All's fair in love and politics!

As an aside, I would NOT want to be on his list of possible nominees in the midst of this situation - whether they are conservative or liberal! Too much drama! :hand:

Kenny, I want to be able to discuss religion and other topics on here. That strikes me as snarky, what you said. If two things are morally equivalent, why post in such a manner as to make it sound like yours is the better of the two b/c you are of course right?

I don't pray, I don't even know if I believe. Why not just say "I will send respectful thoughts to his family and friends" and be done?

A man died, and now we're talking about the republican bozos and how stupid the republicans are and how they're chomping at the bit to do all this hanky panky...that doesn't leave a bitter taste in anyone's mouth?

I don't go to church b/c of how people act when they claim to be something they're not, at the churches. I don't identify w/either D or R b/c of how the vast majority of them talk/act/react/respond..this just leads me further into my own little shell/world. Tired of the contention, everywhere, even from people who claim to want otherwise.

It comes as no surprise that McConnell is pledging to "sit on his hands." The republican majority has pretty much done nothing since they took control of both houses, why start now?

On a personal level, Scalia was a 79 year old man who lived a good life and died at an age that seems young to me now that I'm in my 50s but is nevertheless a full life span for a man in this country. He is not our personal friend or family member, so to me it's just posturing to take some kind of offense at people discussing what this means for the country. The direct affect that his death has on Americans is that one way or another there will be a new Supreme Court Justice. I'll leave it to the people that actually knew him in his personal life to mourn his passing.

I think the right wing is going to shoot themselves in the foot. All Obama has to do is put forth one nominee after another that resonates with the our current liberal demographic. Each one that the republicans block will further alienate another segment of the population whose votes they are going to need if they hope to see another republican president in the White House.

And what's your solution? Trickle down? Start more wars?

Several economists have said that Bernie Sander's economic plans are those that are the most sound. So tell me DF, are you going to vote for him???

No, of course not.

And this Administration has done A LOT to grow the economy compared to what it inherited. From the Republicans who ruined it.

You are partially right about growth in the Obama admin. Dependency on government benefits ... has grown. The racial divide in this nation ... has grown. The number of part time (vs full time) jobs ... has grown. The cost of my health insurance ... has grown. The number of things people THINK they have a right to or are entitled to ... has grown.

Yep, lotsa growth. Thanks Obama!

Sorry I can not support Sanders b/c I don't believe in socialism. Yes, IMO the rich should pay more in taxes but not the % he have in mind. The younger crowd wants everything for FREE!... :wall:

Yes, this Administration has done A LOT to grow the economy...You mean like creating 162K low paying jobs for the month of Jan?...pathetic!.. :wall:
