I''ve been mostly lurking here, with a few posts under my belt. We are seriously starting to look for a ring (yipeee!).
Although I had my heart set on an Asscher, I''m resigning myself to the fact that I''ll get way more "bang for the buck" if I go with an RB.

The specs on this stone look lovely! As long as the ideal scope image looks nice and the vendor confirms it''s eye-clean, I think you are good to go!

I have small hands and thin fingers...Don''t actually want anything huge, but I do want it to look yummy!

oooooh, I love that setting!!! With a thin band like that, it''s going to make your stone look huge! I have thin bands on my .74 and most people think it''s a 1 carat stone.

To avoid stone undersnatching (adoption by unknowns), reserve the stone first while asking for opinions. Most vendors (and GOG too) will hold the stone while you decide. And do it ASAP!

Double agreed. A very nice stone. Call GOG NOW to hold it. It doesn''t cost you any $$$ to do so (at least I don''t recall putting any $ down)

I think the website states there''s a $500 deposit to ''hold'' the stone.

But is this refundable? Not that I''m planning on canceling, but you know, ''just in case!''.

Wow, that's a new one. Nevertheless, give GOG a call and talk to them. I think they could well waive the fee if you explain your situation (and how the other fish got away).

GOG Policy Quote:

This deposit will hold the diamond for you up to 72 hours to give you time to make payment arrangements with your bank or credit card company. If you pay the balance via credit card the regular price applies. You can receive the bank wire discount for the diamond if you bank wire the balance with no more than $500.00 deposit on credit card. The stone will be considered sold and your deposit is fully refundable or exchangeable up to 30 days after the deposit is placed. It states that your deposit is fully refundable, so it should be okay.
 
You know, now that I think back, I guess I did put a deposit down while I thought about my stone. I had forgotten that....
 
This new stone looks great, now go and get it or put it on hold before another lurker gets it!

You are funny! I think it is very modern and shows a true partnership in the making to ring shop together. And you are very thoughtful now that you have chosen what you''d like - to revert back to letting him do the "official" part of ordering it. I chose my stone and ring with a little bit of input from my husband, but let him open the box and "give" it to me. (Just in case HIS mother''s voice was ringing in his head!!) It was very fun, my kids got a big kick out of the whole thing. Now, when people see my ring, they say to him, "what a beautiful diamond - Paul - you have great taste!" He beams, and says "ah, I only paid for it." Everyone laughs, and he actually looks quite proud to be in the moment.

Congrats on the engagement!

However, when it comes to actually dolling out the cash, I''ll gladly take a step back!
