Then it should have been rejected as it scores 5.5 on the HCA. Is there a return period?

Your numbers are correct.

Fife--The Holloway Cut Advisor (HCA) tool is used to weed out poor performers. Anything that scores over a 2.0 is considered a poor performer, and here on PS we'd advise you to keep looking for a better stone.

Just a question - why does GIA rate this cut as being Excellent?

How does that cut rating differ from this HCA tool?

GIA EX cut range is broader than AGS so it requires some extra research to be sure that your getting a stone with optimal light performance. Like the others said we usually suggest weeding out large online inventories by using the HCA and then requesting idealscope images on the stones that scored under 2.

edit: found it! I found this article really helpful when I was navigating my way around trying to purchase my first RB. Hope it helps. There is another one the Jon at GOG did that might be helpful, I'll look for that one too.

edit 2: I forgot to mention that I think that your stone is most closely going to resemble stone #1 in the examples in the article.
