After going through many loose diamonds I reserved this one and have another in mind...can PS'ers provide some yay or nay on either?

maybe educate me on a subtle differences of the table/crown/pavillion in this situation (i have read it already but can't decide which has the better stats)

Thanks

1.5I vs. 1.7J
both are similar price within $200 of each...both are VS range and look similar on inclusion table chart, both have similar AGA/NAJA and HCA scores

They're both spectacular ACA's - I think you are overthinking it. You are buying the stone, not the paper stats. I'd ask WF if there is a significant difference in color (is it a high I and a low J for example?). Ask them to take pics of them side by side so you can see size and color differences. And ask for the gemologist's opinion. That may help -

+1 This exactly.

Yes, you don't need to use the HCA. etc. with ideal cut diamonds, and especially not ACA's which are at the top of the heap of ideal cuts!

This really is just a matter of color. I personally won't go below I color because I can see the tint in a J. But is size more important to her than color? Some girls want the biggest stone possible no matter the color. Others don't want a stone with a slight tint and would be thrilled with a 1.5 ct ideal cut stone. Think about the sizes of the e-rings of her closest friends or sisters. If they are all wearing 1-1.5 ct stones, I would go with the I color 1.5. If they are all wearing 2 ct stones, then I'd get the biggest I could, which would be the J.

thanks all again

i asked them to pull both and compare by their gemologist

they came back and said the 1.7J is graded accurately as middle of pack J but the 1.5I is actually closer to an H (so a High I)

they provided 3 side by side pics

macro face down on white background, macro face up on thier standard black background and a from probably a one foot distance face up on a woman's hand

i can see the tint in the J, and although i notice a size difference in the first two macro pics, i couldnt notice significant difference from the hand pic (~0.2mm difference in circumference)...also she will probably have the biggest carat out of everyone (for now)

i think the 1.500 I VS2 is the winner!
