I got my ring in on Thursday... The setting is absolutely perfect to me!

My concern is on the center diamond... I did not think that it was going to look as dark/yellow as it does and there really is a contrast to me compared to the f/g sidestones.
Everything about the diamond is perfect to me except for how dark it appears on it's platinum setting with f/g sidestones...

I need some advice from you guys on whether I should return center stone and search for a G stone or whether to just keep it...
I've asked several girls (most of them randomly to insure an unbiased opinion) and most loved it and didn't mind the contrast.
But I paid a good amount for the ring and I don't know if it's everything that I imagined it to be but maybe I'm just being OCD!?

I need opinions and suggestions, please!

here's a link to the stone itself:

Aw you can''t? Maybe it''s the horrible lighting and snap and shoot camera... I took it with different ISOs but the contrast should still be apparent

Thank you for the compliment though!

Gorgeous ring! I don''t really see much of a contrast either.

Looks good. Could you possibly take more photos with a real camera? I''m assuming you used a camera phone.

Maybe you could put the ring on a flat table, and have the camera on the table as well, so you won''t have to worry about motion blur. Perhaps use the marco setting as well.

#1 and #3 do look dark, but it could be a function of the lighting around it... maybe?

Have you talked with Brian about your concerns? The center stone will definitely show different than the smaller stones in the band. Yellow and dark are two different things though; the ''darkness'' is probably just what you''d find in certain lighting conditions with an ideal cut stone. Yellow would probably be the color of the center stone as compared to the smaller stones. Some folks are more sensitive to it than others - an H is usually just fine.

However, I''d really call Brian and have a chat. Trying to talk yourself into liking something is probably not going to work. I''m sure he could offer you some suggestions and alternatives to your current stone.

For what it''s worth, the pictures of your ring are really lovely. I certainly don''t see the ''yellow'' in the tone from your pictures. Sometimes we have a preconceived vision of what something will look like and feel disappointed when it doesn''t appear as we had pictured. Give it a few days and see if the ring in reality doesn''t look more beautiful to you with each passing day!

I sent an e-mail Friday night and am waiting for a response. I called a bit ago and found out that Lesley is out of town but both her and Brian will be in tomorrow, so I''ll call then. I have two GIA "G" diamond certs with ex ex ex that are going to be e-mailed to me tomorrow from a local jeweler... I''ll report what Brian and Lesley suggest tomorrow.

You''re right, in direct sunlight it''s hardly noticeable, but in just ambient day light without direct sunlight it''s still apparent... Here are more photos:

The melee is always going to look whiter than the center diamond. Can you return the setting, and get one with H/I melee instead?

I know the pictures are semi-dark but try to compare with f/g sidestones for a basis.

And I doubt it, their settings all have Brian gavin signature melee f/g... There is a local jeweler that can replicate the setting and put g/h in it but I am so in love with the setting and quality that I'd rather just focus on the center stone...

Your ring is gorgeous. I don''t see the contrast in the photo. My ideal cut looks dark in certain lighting - especially sunlight but I understand that is normal. Good luck getting this resolved to your liking.

would a simple solitaire perhaps make the 1.5ct look better?

Perhaps... but the setting style is NOT changing. Thank you for suggestion though!

honestly the ring is absolutely stunning and i really cant see what is bothering you in any of the pix. that being said you have to live with it. it is true melee always looks blinding white....

I''m not seeing it either but if it''s something that bothers you go up in color and that should take care of it.

19cquest,

It really is a beautiful ring. From the pictures you posted, your diamond looks very white. I recently purchased a platinum setting with G/H side stones with an H colored RB centered diamond as an E-ring. In direct sunlight, the diamond was absolutely white; however, in spotlighting and understandard flourescent lighting through the pavillion, it looked very yellow, especially in a platinum setting. I struggled with whether or not this would bother me in the long run. My new fiance thought the diamond was absolutely perfect, but every time I looked at the diamond it looked more and more yellow to me. Well, I ultimately returned the diamond and obtained a G colored stone with faint blue flouresence. The difference was considerable. There is not hint of yellow in this stone regardless of the lighting. Of course the diamond did cost more, but I am now completely satisfied when I see it. And although my fiance was skeptical about replacing her diamond, when she saw the new diamond, she understood what I was saying.

Ultimately some peopel are just more color sensitive than others. If you it really bothers you, then I would say change it. It is your ring and you have to be the one to look at it for years to come.

Just my 2 cents

Sodenc, you know exactly how I feel! It''s tough because every other single aspect of the stone is EXACTLY what I am looking for...

BG e-mailed me back:
Hi Anthony,

I just walked in from a trip to California and see that there is a message that you called tonight with concerns about your center stone. I did get your e-mail but was in a business meeting for 2 days solid and apologize for not getting back to you.

I am not sure what you are seeing re: color as the H faced up white - we have set J Brian Gavin Signature H & A''s in that setting and they face white. If you would like to switch it out for a G and we do not have one in stock, we can always look at the Brian Gavin Select diamonds where there are other ideal cuts and GIA ex ex.

Please call in after 9 a.m. CT in the morning and we''ll get right on it.

Best Regards,

Lesley Harris

Man I''m so torn apart on this but ultimately I think I won''t be happy with the H that I have...

What do you guys think of this BG Select stone? there are no pictures or idealscope but I think I like the proportions and cert?

Thank you all for your comments and suggestions on this! I still obviously haven''t made any decisions but I feel that I may not be able to live with the contrast

I am in agreement with the majority here, I don''t see the colour difference.

Having said that, you have to wear it and therefore only you can decide if it is right.

It is beautiful and my dream size. I hope to upgrade to that size one day!!

Good luck with your ring.

I think this is the crux of it. The melee side stones are going to be extremely white in all viewing conditions with a very fast sparkle or shimmer. Centre stones do vary in appearance in contrast, they will not look similar to the tiny side stones as larger stones can reflect more colour from the surroundings, the appearance and behaviour will be entirely different. What I would suggest is go to view some AGS0 Peerless brand from Jareds if you have a store near you, this will show you how other well cut diamonds look and behave.
