Just got my OECs back from GIA.

I just picked up the three diamonds I dropped off at GIA on 12/13. To my surprise, when I called them on 12/19, my stones had already been graded and ready for pick up  Since I was very busy preparing for the trip, I was not able to go down to the Midtown West area before leaving the country. I just came back earlier this week and finally picked the stones up.

Although I was aware that one of the stones was more tinted than the other two, I was shocked to see that the tinted one was graded as K/VS2  The other two were both graded as F/SI1. I was expecting the K to come back as an I or better :errrr:

Now I don't know what to do with those stones. The F/SI1s are a great match. I've dreamt of making an OEC three stone ring, but I don't know if I'll ever find a 2ct OEC in high color like the pair I have right now. I could put the K in a pendant, but I'm not really loving the shape. It looks more like a chubby oval and pillowy. Maybe I should use one of the matched pair for a pendant, but I feel bad breaking an almost perfectly matched pair.

What would you do? I was originally looking for a pendant stone, but made an impulsive buy on eBay. I don't regret the purchase, but I don't know what to do with the stones.

Use the matched pair for earrings? Or use them as side stones for a colored stone center.

You can use the K stone for anything - pendant, ring, or perhaps resell?

Hi SMC,

Unfortunately, my ears are not pierced. I like the idea of using them as side stones. Maybe I can find a nice sapphire? I'm too scared to sell a diamond online, but I'll think about that. Thank you :twirl:

If you don't feel comfortable selling online (if you have a GIA certificate though, its super easy), you can call JBRG and see if they would be interested in a consignment. Or GOG.

Did they get graded as OECs by GIA? What ct weight did they turn out to be?

Could you post pics?

Make an appointment with Adam at Old World Diamonds - located same building as GIA I believe - and bring all 3 diamonds - ask if he has a stone that will match your pair, and see if you can trade in the K stone to help off-set the cost of the new stone... if Adam doesn't have something suitable in stock, he likely can find something for you.

Gypsy,

I've contacted JBEG. Thank you. What do you think is a reasonable price? Somewhere between $1200-$1800? Thank you.

Charmy,

Yes. They all got graded as OECs. The Fs are 0.77 each and the K is 0.8.

Missy,

Sure. I'm trying to take pictures, but it's super hard! I'll post them as soon as I get better pictures.

Mary,

I cannot afford to get a new 2ct without selling my MRB, but that's a great option. I'll contact him if things don't work with JBEG. Thank you.

Put them on Pre-loved and link them to one of the classifieds sites. I am pretty sure you will find an interested party (if a reasonable price) without having to pay the commission / consignment fee.

I would not split up a well matched pair since they aren't easy to find. I'd personally save them and set a colored stone in the middle, but as Charmy said, if you do want to sell them, just post on LoupeTroop. You'll need good magnified pictures, though.

Yes, wander over to Colored Stones, we'll help you find a nice center stone over there.

I am sad you don't have pierced ears as they would be perfect.

Charmy,

If I don't hear back from JBEG by Monday, I'll consider putting the K up on DB or LT. What do you think is the reasonable
Price? Thank you.

DS,

I'm probably keeping the pair. I know it's really hard to find a matched pair of OECs in high color. Thank you. I'm definitely selling the K.

iLander,

Thank you. I'd love to get a nice sapphire.

Heidi,

I like the idea! I'm keeping the pair. I'll wait and see if I want to use them for a pendant or a ring.
