I haven't looked at the latest "Rap Sheet" yet to compare......
I wonder what kind of differences we'll see?

I'll do some comparisons using the most current "rap sheet" which has become irrelevant pretty much......but just for spits and giggles.....

This is an interesting comparison because it represents a snapshot at the beginning—and possibly end—of Rap influencing the prices.
Of course, just my opinion, but Rappaport's stance against Lab diamonds, and refusal to change the list to represent the lower diamond prices has cast him into irrelevancy...
Lab Diamond prices were strictly tied to the "rap sheet" from when we started with them about 5 years ago till recently.
At this point, lab diamond prices have stabilized at realistic levels ( again IMO)
In a true example of supply and demand, J color Lab diamonds are now more costly than D colors, because no one is making J color anymore- the technology has improved.
I will admit, that even as an 18 year old, I didn't quite understand why a D was worth more than a J.
Of course, I lived in that reality for most of my career, but lab diamonds have kind of busted the myth.
In any event, let's look at how the list has changed....
2ct D/IF
1990- $26k per carat
2024- $33k
That specific looks pretty bad as far as investment...but D/IF is an anomoly
How about 5ct G/SI1
1990 $14k per carat
2024 $32k per carat

Even there, we really can't consider diamonds as a financial investment.
IN the case of 5ct G/SI1, and the list, it's kept up with inflation, nothing more.
BUt that's a lot better than many other things purchased in 1990....
