I've just bought this Princess cut diamond for my fiance's ring:

http://www.agslab.com/pdf_sync_reports/8220809-PDQDFK.PDF

But now I'm worried because I've just seen that this certificate is from 2007..

Would the AGS standards be the same in 2007 as they are now, or has the criteria changed?

That's 6 years ago, seems like a lot, and it just seems odd given the rest of the diamonds from this jeweler have certs dated 2012..

Spec:
0.75 Carot - G - IF - Ideal Cut (0)
Cert. Number 8220809
Depth: 57.10%
Table: 64.00%
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Excellent
Fluorescence: None
Measurements:
5.05x5.01x3.62

Also, I've not seen the diamond/ring yet..

From looking at the cert/spec, do you think it will be a nice diamond?

I'm very inexperienced, this is my first diamond purchase, but from the research I've done on here, I think it ticks the right boxes?

Friday is the big day! :-o

Well you took a shot in the dark and put all your eggs in one basket, but if it's an AGS princess, I'm thinking you'll be ok. I don't know when they began evaluating princesses for light performance but in the upper right hand corner there are some really good numbers there. However, they're just numbers.

You really need to see it with your own two optics to see how it performs. Find a jeweler or gemologist in your area (look under the resources tab for an appraiser) that has an ASET to evaluate it for you to see if it really really performs! GL! :wavey:

The standards are the same.
I would want to know if someone had been wearing it for the last 6 years(needs a new report) or if it has been in a safe somewhere(should be fine).
A lot can happen to a diamond in 6 years.
An appointment with an independent appraiser is never a bad idea.

Per the report
Total depth is 72.3%, 57.1% is the pavilion depth.
I went huh when I read the # too so don't feel bad.

TitanCi,
Had to take a shot in the dark, I'm based in London, and all the good stuff seems to be in the states..
I've got 30 days to return, but I'm really hoping I won't need to..
I've looked at the PriceScope database for appraisers, but there's nothing for UK.. will have to search google..

Karl,
I don't think there will be any way to know if it was been set/worn before?
But if it has, what aspects of the diamond could be effected? Surely the Cut Clarity etc will be the same, only difference would be if it's been chipped?
Is guessing diamonds wont scratch, given how hard they are? Or can it get damaged?

Libby,
Don't say that.. :((
It's an AGS Ideal, so thought it'd be ok.. :((

You can ask, they might or might not know. Diamonds can get damaged from wear and the clarity grade can change.
