Julia Kay Taylor ... Spinel...

Part of my problem is we had this discussion about this Spinel before and decided that it shouldn''t be bezeled. Hmmm

I''m going to have to bezel something soon no matter what, I obviously want a bezeled ring. I''m just not sure this is the stone to bezel.

OK now that you all know how crazy I am I''ll just stop posting on this thread for tonight!

I think it''s screaming "bezel me!!" and I think you just need to find a jeweler that will guarantee a crisp clean bezel since the stone is a tad small.

I say bezel it.

stone hunter - that''s a lovely color!!! I''m talking to jkt too - not sure if she can fit my timeline... I should contact a couple other people but I''m not sure who... I really like the ring that you like as well, do you think it will matter if you have light from the pavilion on this stone?

Bezel please!

Sara, Janish Jewels, Patrick Irla, and Kyle Anne all do great work. And of course HOW.

Brandy is your stone in A. Silver? How is the setting holding up and how often do you wear it?

I'm going off to searc for the details on your ring....
Well duh! I'm the one that asked this question in your thread about your setting. I just forgot your answer.

A. Silver it is. Now how is it holding up? How does the bezel look now that you've worn it a while?

THANKS
Yes, the ring is Argentium(sp?) silver. Julia actually has my katie ring right now. The bezel came loose on it. Julia says that can happen over time and I was wearing that ring on a daily basis. I'm also the kind of person that'll notice a bruise or cut and not have a clue as to how it got there.

With that being said, I think the ring has held up well and I'll take the blame for the loose bezel. I must have banged it on something and not realized it.
Sorry to hear that but glad you got it taken care of. My understanding is that more metal must be used to keep this from happening, or a stronger metal. And since my stone is smaller than yours adding more metal would give it a very different look than the ring in your photos. That would cover up the pavillion and give me a thicker bezel.

I think that getting a crisp clean bezel on this size stone and being sure that there is enough metal for the bezel to stay put is the issue. They are in conflict. So maybe finding a larger stone to bezel is the way for me to go. That way the amount of metal or thickness of metal needed won''t overpower the stone.

And for others reading this I want to say that I know a bezel will visually increase the size of the stone but the concern is not having the metal overpower the stone. I hope that''s clear for future readers.

I don''t know about the light hitting the pavillion. That has been a hotly debated issue on PS

When I look at the Katie setting what I like is the top down view! I''ve looked at some other settings by other jewelers and I don''t want the stone to be encased in a tube, blocking all view of the pavillion. But that''s just a looks thing and well there are some PSers that think that would darken the stone and interfere with the color shifting...again a hotly debated topic.

As of today I''m thinking of going off in a totally different direction with this stone. I''m going to reread the thread last year where bezeling this stone was discouraged by PSers and consider their points again. But I do like JKT''s settings and may try to find a stone that would work better in them.

OK last year after much debate and discussion I decided not to bezel or halo this stone. Instead I posted this setting as a possibility...but I wasn''t keen on 6 prongs because of so much metal. What do you all think?

I have also found this other swirl ring that I am now seriously considering, it has only 4 prongs and I like the side view.

And here is the side view. It does allow light to get to the pavillion and it allows me to see the pavillion. I would get it in White gold. I know this is a very different direction than the first post in this thread. But after reading all of the PSer posts for this thread and for my thread last year on this stone I am considering this setting.

That''s a cool setting SH. I think you''re stone is very pretty and it''ll look good however you set it.

THANKS brandy I appreciate your support since I love love your ring, yet I may decide not to copy it. At least not with this stone.

Ooh, I like the 4-prong swirl ring!

I prefer the 4 prong version over the 6 prong; nice open profile too.

I think your stone is very pretty! I like the 4 prong swirl over the 6. What about doing a semi bezel? I saw a swirl semi bezel and it was really pretty!

Thanks everyone for posting your opinions!!

Ditto. I have also seen faux tension settings in a swirl design that would look great with a round colored stone.
