Has anyone sold a high dollar ring with JBG and can shed some light on what you can expect in return? Is she pretty spot on with the estimate of what it will sell for or does she usually have to come down? Just looking for some information! Thanks

She offered me close to nothing for a Tiffany & Co. DBTY necklace while I know that she sells overpriced second hand Tiffany jewelry. I sold it myself for over 4 times what she offered me.

Oh that’s too bad NKC! But glad you sold it on your own. Grace quoted me a very good range for my ring, I just don’t know if I can “actually” get that if I send it off to her and if it was realistic. And I have to leave my ring for 18 months or until it sells

But was that to outright buy it or a price she would consign it for?

The range was for what she would try to sell it for, on consignment. I was just wondering if I really would end up getting that price range for it. Or would it have to end up being reduced greatly. I just don’t want to send it off until I have more assurance It will sell for a good price. She is quite lovely to speak to and work with.

I currently have my ring on Pre Loved Jewels and eBay, at a lower price than what Grace would consign for. But I’m finding it quite daunting to sell something on my own, dealing with shipping, insurance, returns and requests for payment plans etc.I am tempted to just send it to her but wanted some opinions from those who have actually sold items in the $30,000 range. It’s also hard to except the 15% cut Grace will take. But that’s what you have to except when having a third-party try to sell ;)

Consignment? If so, she knows she's not going to lose anything and she will get some money (fee) anyway whether it sells or not (if I understand correctly how consignment works per her website).

It was to buy it. Other jewelers/ dealers offered me 30% of retail but she offered me around 1% of retail. I sold it myself for more than 30%. If she's in this business, I'm sure she know (as well as other jewelers) how much she should offer (definitely more than 1%) and how much she can sell it for.
She was not as nice and tactful on the phone as she's here. She was short and did not want to explain to me how consignment works and referred me to her website. I'm so glad she was this way as I believe that everything happens for a good reason.

Each item is priced individually, of course, but I have had clients who have successfully consigned things to her and the playout has been quite close to what was expected up front.

As a general rule, consignment deals often involve a bit of negotiation with the final buyer. This applies to any consignment program, not just Grace’s. It’s part of what you’re paying the seller to do. In order to avoid surprises, discuss with them up front about whether or not this is part of their pricing strategy. They should be happy to tell you what to expect.

At the time I was trying to sell my necklace, Diamondseeker told me that it is possible to use an appraiser as mediator for the transaction. He will hold the money from the buyer, appraise your ring and ship to the seller, etc. and make sure the transaction goes smoothly. I think it is a good idea to inquire about this and consider it when selling an expensive item like your ring.
I do think your ring is very pretty and you will be able to sell it yourself eventually.

Great advice everyone! I have told myself I will try to sell the ring on my own for a good 3 to 6 months, and then venture out to Grace most likely.

There is no guarantee your piece will sell, regardless of what price Grace (or anyone else) tells you to list it for... they can tell you to list for way more (or less), but that doesn't mean someone will pay that price. You may want to speak with Erica of Love Affair Diamonds... I've found her to be much more professional, tactful, and kinder than Grace. Good luck!

@denverappraiser and @msop04 brought up some pretty good points.

I would add too for big ticket items, peace of mind is important - and for buyers, being able to buy from a respected jeweler knowing it is legit, not worry about being scammed or bringing it to an appraiser for verification and having a return policy (which usually individual sellers don't offer) are very attractive. If you were able to meet up with the buyer and go to the appraisers together (which is what some people in high end watch circles do selling as individuals), or have an independent appraiser "hold" the ring for their viewing and money in escrow that would certainly provide peace of mind.

I second this. She is kind and responsive and has sold and traded for me in the past.

I recall that there have been a few pretty negative experiences with Grace recently, including consignment issues. I’d recommend doing a search on “Grace” and “JbG” to read for yourself.

Others have had positive experiences (which are often mentioned in those threads too); I believe in balanced information, so read everything you can find and then decide.

I also recall that Love Affair Diamonds charges a flat fee for consignment items (stepped by value) as opposed to a percentage so you would know exactly what the fee would be with Erica.

Seriously....this site is helpful! You all are so kind for helping me:) I reached out to Erika as well per everyones advice. I'm still crossing my fingers I can sell it on my own...it's so beautiful I should be able to!!

Hi...how can I get in touch with you to ask more about your ring if it is still available?

Hi there... I need to mark this as sold. I sold a few weeks ago and just haven’t gotten around to it... I’m sorry good luck with your search!
