Jewelry piece I bought....real or fake?

Hi everyone and thanks for your help in advance.
I just bought a diamond cross and 5mm chain. 14KT yellow gold. Well, that's where I hope it is. I have been using this jeweler for years and he always seems fair but that doesn't mean much nowadays I suppose. I tried it on, and liked it so I left it on and paid. I was sitting at my desk looking at the lobster clasp and noticed a mark under the 14kt. It is a G and S. I immediately thought this was a gold shell stamp or something along those lines and made the phone call. He swears it is the makers mark. I have seen GF, HCE, but this is the 1st GS I have seen. I did the magnet test and only the clasp(because of the spring) reacts to the magnet. Any thoughts? Has anyone ever seen GS stamped on trued 14KT? Thanks

Just have it tested.

There's literally thousands of hallmarks. If you're unsure, take it to another jeweller or pawnshop and have it tested. I doubt your jeweller is lying to make a small sale.

As maccers and msop indicated, there are lots of hallmarks of various sorts, and the easiest way to see what your chain might be made of is to have it tested. The "GS" could mean Gold Shell (another term for gold filled) or it could be a maker's mark or identification, as per the explanation in this thread.
