YAY!

YAAAAHHHH!!!

From reading it I can''t quite tell if the diamond would be covered while bing set by a jeweler? Would such damage be called "wear and tear" under the exclusions?

Good question. I am going to email and find out.

I asked and they confirmed that the diamond is covered while being set by the jeweler.

Their response:
Thank you for your email. Yes the diamond is covered for damage while being set by a jeweler. Our policy covers the listed items while you are traveling worldwide. Please contact us with any questions that you may have.

Thanks Charmy, that s the most comprehensive policy I have seen then. My rider on my home insurance won''t even tell me what it covers, getting the exclusions from them has been like pulling teeth

That''s what you get when they are not specialized I guess.

Thanks for posting this!!!!!!! I''m so happy, it''s about time!

My friends have told me that the jewellry rider on TD Home Insurance is great. I was planning to check it out but we just renewed our home insurance through PC so it will be a while. Debating if I should switch my jewellry over to Jewelers Mutual. I am really happy :)

Does the TD policy cover world wide too?
This is great news. I''ve been curious about insurance.
I''m going to look into both.

I was doing some research the other day and I found this informative list of questions to ask each insurance provider prior to signing up for a policy.
It claimed to cover against surprises when you need to submit a claim.
There was also a prelude to these questions explaining that Insurance companies replace diamond using their ''volume discount'' and insist you use THEIR source for replacement. It''s important to clarify that YOU have the choice of replacement. They can (or will) use their buying power to have lessor diamonds "upgraded" to meet the specs of the claim. Eg: Have a no-name brand Lab certify a replacement for your AGS and claim that all Labs are the same.

I hope it''s within pricescope rules to post it.

1. Is an appraisal necessary for full coverage?
2. What is the difference between scheduled and unscheduled coverage?
3. Is there a deductible? If so, how much? Do I have the option to increase the deductible and thus lower the premium?
4. Is my policy all-risk (partial loss, damage, mysterious disappearance, etc.)?
5. Am I still covered if there is negligence or carelessness involved?
6. Is the item covered if lost, stolen or damaged while in the possession of someone else? What if only a part is lost, stolen or damaged while in the possession of someone else?
7. If there is a loss, do I have a choice of a full cash-out or will I have to accept less?
8. Can I go to whomever I wish for the full replacement?
9. If a loss has been replaced through an insurance company source, will I be allowed to verify proper replacement by an independent firm or accredited appraiser?
10. How much will it cost per thousand for full coverage? Partial? What do I sacrifice for the limitations?
11. Is depreciation ever imposed? To what and how is it computed?
12. How often should I have an appraisal update?
13. Am I limited to the appraised replacement cost should there be a sizable increase in the value?
14. If there is damage to a piece, can I replace it or will I be limited to repair?
15. What if the lost item is irreplaceable, like an antique?
16. Are there any security precautions required? If not, would there be a premium savings if special precautions were taken, e.g., the items were kept in a home safe or in a safety deposit box when not being worn?
17. What proof is needed to justify a claim?
18. Are there different kinds of jewellery insurance available?
19. Are there any exclusions?
20. What is the pair and set clause? Will the insurance cover an additional amount for matching a missing item in a set if it hasn''t been computed and stated?
21. What types of property are not covered?
22. Will you show me the actual language in the policy which addresses each concern I''ve expressed?

Thanks, Charmypoo! We''re excited to be in Canada. Our official launch date is Feb. 1. So, with your amazing contacts in the industry, you broke the news first!

I can confirm your answer about Jewelers Mutual insuring stones in the process of being set. For that coverage, be sure to complete the online application and send an appraisal/insurance valuation for the stone and the setting BEFORE the stone is set. When you have received confirmation that the policy is in force, tell the jeweler to set the stone.

I''m happy to answer any questions about our coverage.

Sue,
Can anyone over there answer questions or are their certain departments that handle loose vs. settings?

I have a loose diamond that is going to need to be set.

I just did a quick quote on the website and learned that I''d save almost $200 annually on the two pieces I selected for a quote - GREAT prices, sure beat the pants off my Wawanesa policy!!!

I can save over $600 yearly but too bad they don''t offer insurance in Quebec

damn bilingual language requirements.

I''m not seeing a savings. I guess I have a great insurance policy. All risks, full replacement value, my choice of vendor, etc.

Anyone in our Personal Jewelry Insurance department can answer questions about insurance for your jewellery. They can transfer you if you have an issue that is better handled by an underwriter or manager.

Hi from Ontario!!!

Hi Sue,

Thank you for joining in on this thread. I am sure many members and future members will be happy with the news.

I have one additional question. Many Canadian pricescope members have elected to make their purchases with US vendors. In the event of loss or damage, are we able to have the replacement or repair done by our US vendor of choice. Speaking for myself, I was unable to find what I was looking for in Canada.

Hi from Ontario!!!
HaHa, I have a Toronto address as well, but I can''t ensure my primary residence in Montreal which is

and they won''t budge on this. I hate the quebec government and thier protectionist policies regarding all terms must be offered in French.

Hi from Ontario!!!
Move to Alberta, we don''t have PST!

Sue,

Do you feel comfortable answering the questions that IceExplorer raised and others in a public forum for all us Canadians to see?

Oh my gosh that is so exciting! After having my ring uninsured for the past 2 years, DH and I FINALLY just insured it, oh, 2 weeks ago. I wish I''d known about JM coming to Canada! It is so much better than what we got ("platinum plus" with TD Meloche Monnex").

Thanks for the info Charmy!

It appears that JM allows a jeweler in Canada to replace our jewelry. I am struggling because there is no Canadian jeweler that can give me what I want

So it cannot be an american company? What happens if we have a branded cut and an upgrade policy with a particular US vendor?? I will need to call and talk to them before I decide what to do.

ETA Can't a canadian jeweler call in a virtual diamond from the US that is similar to the ones you had throug ERD (that's where you went, right?)?

I am not so worried about my ERD stone which I might can get in Canada but unlikely since stock is so low. I am more concerned about my August Vintage which I won''t be able to replace in Canada.

Let me know what they tell you - I am going to call them tomorrow. I was discussing through email.

Oh yes, I forgot you have one of those! Yes, this is my concern because I have a BGD signature cut and want to keep my upgrade policy intact if anythng happened. Plus I like Brian''s eye for cut.

Personally, I agree with Alberta not paying sales tax. You guys finance many of the poorer provinces. That sounds like a good trade off to me :)
