How much would you think my ring is worth retail? My husband bought it offline (from a REALLY good ebayer) they only deal in jewelry of white gold & platinum & they have GREAT feedback. They have nice stuff for great prices! So with our ring at a good deal I wanted to know before we go get it appraised (since this is totally different from retail) how much would you think a ring like mine costed min-max? You can be completely honest! I will make sure to let you know if the number we paid is lower or higher than your opinions!
This is all I know for now -
.85 carat
K-L color
SI clarity (VERY eye clean!!)
14k yellow gold

I can't even begin to guess. What you paid is what is it worth, and if you think you can replace it for that amount again, then that is all you want to insure it for. If you got a really good deal then you might want to self insure, so you don't even need an appraisal. It will be inflated, they always are.

True DD appraisals are very inflated so what it's worth in terms of what you can replace it for, in terms of what it means to you, and what an appraiser will inflate it to ate all different numbers.

How did it go?

I haven't went yet!
My jeweler (or, well the one I trust the most) is an hour away & I haven't had the time yet to go! But will soon! :))

Re: Jewel experts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!???????????????????? How muc

I remember that one for sale. Because of the color I'd say it is worth pretty much what you paid for it. But NEW, marquise melee is expensive, so get it appraised and see.

Re: Jewel experts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!???????????????????? How muc

If you're trying to insure it, you should have it appraised for Replacement Value - that basically IS retail value. In case of loss, they would pay you the $ and you could go out and REPLACE it.

Most insurance companies operate a little differently than this :)) Policies that pay out are rare. Most will replace the ring with one matching the description on the appraisal from *their* sources. Some, like Jewlers Mutual, let you choose the jeweler and replacement and then they either pay the jeweler directly or they reimburse you. This latter type of policy is one I like beacuse if I pay $500 for something I don't want to waste money insuring it for $2000 retail value when I know *I* can replace it for much less if I can choose my own vendor.

I have Chubb- when I lost my earrings they gave me the $1600 they cost.

Re: Jewel experts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!???????????????????? How muc

Fair enough - I have Chubb- when I lost my earrings they gave me the $1600 they cost. They let YOU choose the replacement value, so if I can get it for $500 then that it is. Any one piece under $5000 does not need to be scheduled and there's no deductible on jewelry.

I like your three rings together btw!

Re: Jewel experts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!???????????????????? How muc

Chubb is one of the few places that will offer a cash payout, unfortunately :blackeye: Fortunate if you can ge tthe policy though! Where I live, they only offer jewelery coverage if you have home insurance through them too, and they only insure very pricey homes. But it is one of the best policies available, no doubt!
