Hi guys,

As some of you may recall, I have just purchased my diamond ering from JA and am (was) very pleased with my selection. However, during the lengthy wait for delivery (7-10 days!) I have been analysing the IS and real diamond images again and again (and again!). I am now a little disturbed as to what I have noticed. I am concerned that the real diamond image doesn''t match the AGS cert diagrams! The inclusions on the AGS cert don''t seem to fit the ones on the real diamond image (although at first glance they do). Obviously, the wrong diamond image could have been accidentally used and may not be all that bad, but I was sold the diamond on the assurance it was eye clean and having never seen the diamond for real, my faith in the IS image is also waning!

Does anyone else agree that the real diamond image here doesn''t match the AGS cert? Am I just becoming paranoid and worrying about nothing? I really want to get this purchase right first time (based in the UK so don''t want to have to return and claim back VAT etc).

Can anyone reassure me?

I am no expert but I didn''t see anything on the cert that makes me think it''s not the same diamond. I looked at the diamond pic with the "virtual loupe" and saw two identifying characterisitics, a mark right in the middle, and a thin line cutting through one of the arrows. I then saw marks in similar positions marked on the diagram on the AGS cert.

Is there anything in particular that makes you think they are two different diamonds?

Yes, you are just being paranoid.

You certainly can''t see all the inclusions on a plot in the magnified image. And the inclusions I do see certainly do not conflict with this plot. So relax! If the diamond is on the way, just check it out with a loupe when it comes, or have an appraiser verify it is the stone represented on the grading report.

Its just the inclusions on the AGS cert seem to be in a different place to the ones in the actual diamond. There are 2 very noticeable inclusions on the real diamond image but they don''t seem to appear within the same facets on the AGS cert (at least to me).

As a slight digression, would you say this diamond was a good selection? The more I look at the IS and real image the more it all seems to be a little asymmetrical (although I know it has ideal symmetry so maybe I am just losing it!)

I think the idealscope image looks pretty good. Could the slight asymmetry you''re seeing be due to a slight tilt of the diamond when the picture was taken?

The diamond isn''t necessarily turned exactly the same in the picture as it is on the cert. And I am sure the problem is with the photpgraphy and not with the diamond! It is an AGS0...ideal everything...so it is the picture that is bad, not the stone!!! Some vendors are better than others at the photography and JA won''t win the prize for that. Trust the lab report...that is what gives you confidence to buy online.

Forget about analyzing the inclusions in the image...it''s not anywhere equivalent to seeing the stone in darkfield lighting used to clarity grade. You can''t distinguish between a reflected inclusion and the original, and you don''t know if all the inclusions have been shown in the plot.

Reserve your judgement until you can see it person.
