last year, my darling fiancee purchased my engagement ring from James Allen. It is beatifullll. I frequently get compliments and absolutely adore it. However, their customer service and quality control is severely lacking and I am at a loss of what to do. I had to have my ring resized twice due to the discrepancy between in-store sizes and what size James Allen made. I had to pay for the second resizing which I received last year. No big deal. However, when the ring was returned to me, there was clearly a deformed part (thinner than the rest) of the ring where they did the resizing. I was disappointed and surprised to see this as we went to several local jewelers who advised they would not resize the ring because the band should be remade due to the type of band. Upon learning this, we paid the $50.00 resizing fee and I went without my ring for a few weeks fully expecting to receive my ring back in great shape. But I did not. There is an anomaly in the band where you can tell it was melted for resizing. I was disappointed but due to my own fault and life getting in the way, I never took the time to call/email customer service and tell them of the issue. Fast forward to this year. Our wedding is quickly approaching and we were looking to buy wedding bands, which reminded me to inquire about JA fixing my band. I was advised for them to even look at the ring and determine the issue I would have to pay shipping. After some back and forth, they advised that they would allow me to ship it back to them for free. It was shipped back on June 18. Today, June 25, I was advised that it would cost $100 for them to do the repair of the band because their people determined I was the one who bent the ring. I cannot fathom how on earth I could possibly misshape a platinum band in my everyday life. I don't even wear the ring to bed or in the shower. Imagine my frustration over this. Due to my frustration and refusal to fork over another $100 to a company that ruined the band in the first place, I am looking for alternatives to my situation. I have attached photos of the ring band that were previously provided to JA. Should I just continue with the ring the way it is? Will it eventually break? Would it be worthwhile to get the band remade my a local jeweler? I am certainly never ever using JA again nor would I recommend them to anyone. This is beyond ridiculous. Thanks in advance for the help.

I totally get how angry and frustrated you must be. But they have a valid argument that you didn't let them know right away. I'm not saying you did anything to damage your ring. But just that you can't prove you didn't bc of the time lapse. If you don't want to pay the another $100 bc you are pissed I would just wear it as is and plan for a reset in several years. I don't think any further damage will occur bc it looks like a pretty substantial shank. I have a thick platinum band and nothing misshaped that thing, not even lifting barbells. Good luck!

You can certainly get quotes from some jewellers and see what they'd charge you. Like LLJ said, I'd probably just leave it for now. So long as it's not hurting you, and you probably can't tell as much while wearing it. If you aren't happy with their service, you don't have to give them any more money. Just buy your bands elsewhere and have everything serviced there.
