Hi everybody -
I''ve been looking at engagement rings for a while now and carefully followed your amazing recommendations - i believe i narrowed down the specs of the stone but i''m still really ambivalent about the setting... BN 6 prong is fairly cheap which allows more room for the diamond but i don''t really know what it looks like. Any of you has recommendations or preferences between the BN and the JA Six Prong Knife-Edged solitaire?

thank you so so much

The prongs just look to cheap for me on the blue nile ring. I prefer the James Allen knife edge but I would probably
have them smooth down the knife edge so it was a little more rounded. I dont know why they dont make that
head with a plain rounded band.

i was in the same situation few days back - was confused between James Allen & Blue nile: that time there was not much variety of stones available at Blue nile(post Valentines) plus i found their diamonds little more expensive than James allen(though in the end i got 0.87 carat lovely stone much cheaper at BN). But when i calculated the overall price of the ring :setting + stone the Blue nile was cheaper...so i went for Blue nile. Luckily i got a lovely stone 0.87 carat with platinum setting with side stones... my ring is around $4300!!! In case you go for Blue nile- search online there r 10% discount available ... i saved $$ in discount.

I love the setting (mine is not 6 prong)... it doesnt look cheap....like the prongs!

Just wait for new inventory in blue nile..... you get many stones which are really cheap and they sell out within a day!! I searched for days and noticed this trend at Blue Nile. I had earlier missed on 0.86 stone at Blue Nile because i waited for GIA report and next day it was gone. In such a case- put the diamond on hold and ask for GIA report...i didnt know that earlier.

My ring is in my profile picture!

Earth: your diamond shines so much that i don''t see the prongs (he he...)?

What annoys me is that i cannot really find any real pictures of the BN solitaire... (I think other members encountered the same problem...) so i can''t tell whether it''s really knife edge and how it really looks.

The blue nile is not knife edge. Did you mean the BG (Brain Gavin)?

Oh good to know that it''s not knife edge... RE: annoying that i can see real pictures of what the setting looks like -

I''m so close to make a decision after months of comparing and learning

Hey blo,
You need to give the crown and pavilion angles on your stones too. No offense earth, your ring is lovely but it has
small diamonds and milgrain on the band that really will take attention away from the prongs (and rightly so). A
solitaire only has its prongs so I think the prongs are more important on solitare ring (just my opinion).

Thank you so so much Tyty!

look promising from the numbers. Ask for the idealscope image from JA.

Numbers look good on the blue nile.

The james allen looks good too bud it is a tad deep. I''m sure SC, Lorelei or one of the other prosumers will
give you some feedback on them.

If you are interested in thses stones you need to call and have them put on hold so
they dont get poached.

I do not have a solitaire ring from BN and understand prong setting could be different but i still clicked a few pics of my 4 prong side stone ring and i will be happy if they are of any help!! The setting i am loving right now might not be so appealing to you so its better i post pics of the setting .... i dnt have a very good camera and this is the best i could take. I wish BN also had something like James allen 3D view :-)

As tyty said...pls put the stone you like on hold, i was very upset when i missed a lovely stone by a day

Generally speaking, for a solitaiter I prefer the basket settings to the stock 4 and 6 prong settings.

Ditto the others about their assessment of the diamonds you are considering.

Thank you so much everybody!
I''ve dropped BN. I''m going to go to BGD or JA...

At this point i think i''ll just send my BF to you guys :)

Thanks so much
