To paraphrase, Todd thought it was a little bit deep for his tastes (62.3%), with a corresponding higher crown angle, which is basically the hallmark of a cutter who wants to end up with an ideal cut but wants to eek a few more points of weight out of the rough. He''s probably right to a degree and he was very helpful in his explanation. I told him I''d gone ahead and made the purchase and would evaluate it carefully, and he said he knew it would be a beautiful diamond and not to get worked up.

Love Pricescope!

Well we all know that I''m a bit of a diamond purist

"in a perfect world" and all that... my explanation went a little deeper than this and for the benefit of those who might read this thread at some point in the future:

I had previously referred Soopahmahn to a page on our site which defines our preferred selection criteria with regards to the proportions that we seek for the diamonds which we sell. Obviously any time we are asked to comment on a diamond found with another vendor, we start with determining whether it falls within the scope of our own selection criteria (which the first JA option does, but there was another option mentioned by Soopahmahn which I actually preferred because the diamond had a tighter range of proportions) and then he found this option which is outside of our stated "preferred selection criteria" but which I further explained is likely to be a lively stone because the pavilion angle which is the primary reflective surface is within the range I prefer and that the crown angle would have an effect on the type of light return (brilliance / dispersion) but not so much the degree of light return and that this is more a matter of personal preference - so no doubt that it is a beautiful diamond and all that

Note that the page which defines our preferred range for proportions does clearly state that there are other combinations of proportions which provide similar results, but this is where we focus our efforts, etc. and like I said, I can be a bit precise - Valerie just bought me a t-shirt which reads "Everything I touch turns to Nerd"

Nerdfinger???

Yea, I kind of have mixed feelings about it

I didn''t think anybody wanted Todd''s full explanation, so I gave a quick paraphrasing... his re-summary is much more accurate and complete. Perhaps cut a bit deeply, and others had commented earlier that it was bordering on "deep and steep," but nonetheless a beautiful diamond. Todd was right! And he was very generous to offer his professional opinion pro-bono.

This thing knocks the pants off of anything I''ve seen in a store yet. The closest was the premium line at Jared jewelers (Peerless), but they wanted $2300 for a 0.53-H-SI1 (for the record, I paid $1250). Peerless are AGS triple-0 and come with a GemEX report. The one she showed me happened to have a decent H&A pattern, but definitely some leakage spots. This stone is certainly more firey (proof of Todd''s comment on high crown angle), which is going to make a lady happy.

I just found out about Novell settings and am super excited!
