J colored Diamonds (DBL

I actually really like the cut of the first one. I like the overall shape. However i would ask David if theSBF will look milky.

Don't like the 2nd one at all.

The first one is a stunner! The second one doesn't appeal to me at all.

SB621,

What is the SBF. I haven't heard that before I'm sure it's an acronym for something. The only thing I am contemplating would be the strong blue flourescence that it gives up, but I do like the cut on it. The other one would you say has a more crushed ice look to it? I've also been looking at stones in the .75-.81 range in D-G colors

Here's the setting I plan on using.

Any advice is greatly appreciated

LOL you answered it yourself pretty much! SBF = strong blue flourescence. Sometimes with diamonds that have SBF they can look hazy or milky. When you halo them I think the effect is amplifed. I would just ask David his thoughts, but from the pictures it does look slightly hazy to me.

I think you probably found on PS that crushed iced diamonds are either really looked down on- or people don't mind them at all. I'm personally just not a fan. CI's can look glittery or they can just look mushy- regardless I just don't care for any of them. Too me the appeal of a cushion is the classic facet pattern with bold chunky facets.

In your other thread I commented on the diamond I liked best from the last round. If you are 100% certain that you are going with David I would go with one of those (sorry i don't remember my top 2 off the top of my head) if David says #1 here is milky/ hazy. If you are open to other vendors I would look at GOG and ERD as they have a large stock that I think you will find more options in plus they do the same setting you linked too.

SB621,

Yeah I had people saying sacrifice color and quality for a bigger stone, but I also like some of those other ones in that other thread I had mentioned in the D-G color

That first one the depth on it is almost 71%, the SBF one, too deep you think?

That first one is stunning.

I'm not seeing any haze in the UV rich natural lighting (can't they just call it the sun?) shot in the video. SB, what is it you're seeing?

Outside of bright or UV lighting, it does show some warmth, as many J's do. Is that okay with you?

edit: For depth, fancy shapes sometimes seem to be deeper because the formula is to use the depth and divide by the shortest length. My ideal-cut BGD Cushion has a 71% depth. I wouldn't eliminate a stone based on depth alone unless it was pushing over 75%.

GoSounders,

I like the size of the diamond, it just would come down to the warmth color and how it would look in the setting. I was always told "ideal" depth should be in the 62-65 range just by looking at cut charts.

What do you think, if anyone else has any other opinions on the two diamonds, let me know what they think.

Thanks

I think it depends on if you want size over colour. If you want a white stone then the glitterball with the crushed ice you had which was no.2 from memory in that very first lot of stones you had was the winner. If you want a bigger size and better defined facets compared to that stone then no.1 wins out of these.

Go look at some different coloured stones, if you can, G, H, I, J etc and see if you can live with the colour difference. Even if you go to a different store and look at diamonds it will give you some indication of your threshold for colour.
